It was a goldmine. So many of the objects in here were earth—rock sculptures, wooden shelves, even naturally occurring gemstones that had to weigh at least fifty or sixty pounds.

“Over here,” Cynthia called to Chad.

He joined her on the far side of the room. Once they were side by side, I used every ounce of my power to fling everything I could touch at them.

It turned out that it was a lot.

The impact of all the flying objects crashed into them, blowing a hole straight through two layers of solid wall. I used my powers to tear through the rock walls toward where I felt Lex and Jagger, shoving aside as much of the broken wood and rock and sculptures as I could. Finally, I heard frantic talking. I broke the wall open, crushing some Forsaken Lunars who were just on the other side.

My interruption was enough to break their concentration, ruining the spell they had over the Royals. Jagger woke up first and turned some Forsaken Lunars into ash before they even knew what was coming. Lex and Flint woke up, too, but by then, some of the Lunars had gotten back together to try the spell again.

“Get the artifact!” Jagger shouted.

I sprinted back into the vault, clearing a path as I did. The artifact was still in its proper spot, unmoved by my attack. I expected the spell surrounding the sword itself would be a challenge, but it snapped just from me touching it. The blade was still tinged red, as if all the cleaning we’d done after we carved the runes into our chest hadn’t rubbed off. I fumbled around for the blade as the moon slid between the sun and the earth, blotting out the light.

The moment I grabbed the hilt, the entire room flooded with light, blinding me. The rune carved into my chest glowed in a brilliant green color, like an emerald.

Power unlike anything I’d ever felt coursed through my veins. I was indestructible. I felt connected with the earth, as if it was an extension of myself, like an extra limb I could move at will.

I parted all the rubble I’d created with a mere thought, clearing the way for me to see Lex, Jagger, and Flint. Their chests were glowing as well, the runes we’d carved shining through their shirts.

Lex was smiling from ear to ear, his eyes bright, while Jagger was looking at me in awe the same way he had when he first saw me in my nymph form.

But when I locked eyes with Flint, I felt even more. The same opening of a wing within myself that I didn’t know was there, allowing my heart and soul to expand even more. It took my breath away. I already loved Flint so much, but this was beyond that. I didn’t even know that feeling this much was possible. I knew he was my protector, but knowing how deeply his instincts went almost brought me to tears. He’d die for me without a single doubt.

Lex and Jagger were already a piece of my soul, and now Flint was, too. He was my mate, my final missing piece.

Chapter64

Flint

The rush of feeling my mate bond with Arden snap into place, right after feeling her power as a Royal come to light, sent me to my knees. I noticed that Jagger and Lex had flown into action again, destroying the remaining Lunars who were still struggling to get their sight back after the burst of light Arden had created, but it didn’t matter.

She was the only one who mattered to me at that moment.

She ran toward me, and I got back to my feet to meet her. I caught her as she threw herself into my arms and kissed her with everything I had.

Kissing her before was bliss, but this was perfection. I wasn’t sure where I started and she began. She was everything to me. Without her, my soul was half-formed.

“I love you so much, Arden,” I said, cupping her face. “It feels ridiculous to even say.”

“I can feel it.” She put a hand to my chest. The rune underneath my shirt was healing, as was hers. “I can feel all of you.”

Lex and Jagger came over. We were alone now, all the Lunars turned to ash or beheaded. I held Arden close. Little by little, the sunlight streamed through the window as the eclipse ended.

“The prophecy was true,” she said, her voice thick with emotion. “I’m one of you.”

“It feels right, doesn’t it?” Lex pushed some hair out of her face. “Like you were meant to be here all along.”

“It does.” She leaned back, looking at him and Jagger. “Now I understand why you three walk around the way you do. I feel so in control. It’s going to take a lot to get used to.”

“It’ll come naturally.” I slid my arm around her hips. The slight dip in her mood startled me. It was almost as if I was having the emotion, too. “What’s wrong?”

“I know that you three know I’m a Royal. You saw the burst of light and everything,” Arden said. “But what about everyone else? They already didn’t like me because of where I came from, and now it’s even more complicated.”

“They’ll know. It’s undeniable,” Jagger said. “The magic aspect already happened, and that’s the part that can’t be denied. You’ll see—everyone will sense your power. We’ll present you to the kingdom, and it’ll be done.”

I peered out the window. The battle outside had stopped. Had they seen Arden’s light and felt the shift, too? “We should go see what’s going on down there.”
