Our girl was safer now than she ever had been. Now we had to get her out of here before anything else happened.

Chapter34

Arden

“Guys, I’m fine,” I said, trying to wave Jagger, Flint, and Lex off. “You don’t have to crowd me. We’re in the car.”

They squeezed into one row of seats, Lex on one side, Jagger in the middle with me in his lap, and Flint on the other. None of them had turned their attention away from me since we’d left the Forsaken Lunars’ new headquarters. Not even when their enforcers dragged Tommy and the Moon Oracle out of the building and put them in a van, sealing it closed with magic from five different fae.

“We don’t have to, but we want to,” Jagger said, holding me tighter as we pulled off. “We don’t want to let you out of our sight for another minute.”

I leaned against his chest, burrowing my face into the crook of his neck and inhaling. I’d never felt safer than I did at that moment. All three of my guys cuddled around me. The past few hours had been full of fear, and now I could finally breathe.

We stayed silent the entire drive back to the palace, savoring each other’s presence. I loved them now more than I ever had.

We arrived back in the central palace, where they took me back to my room. Just seeing my bed made me tired. That spell the Forsaken Lunars had put on me hadn’t been real sleep.

“You need rest,” Lex said, massaging my shoulders.

“And a shower,” I added. The thin layer of grime on my skin might have been mental, but even if it was, I wanted to wash away everything that had happened.

“I’ll take her from here,” Jagger said. Lex and Flint nodded, leaving the bedroom. “Come on.”

Jagger guided me to the bathroom and helped me out of my clothes. Even when I was naked, he looked at me with care and affection. I didn’t mind. I was so drained that even sex was an afterthought.

He turned on the water in the massive shower, then stripped as well. Once it was hot enough, he stepped in and extended his hand to help me in.

I was so worn out that I had to sit on the bench built into the back of the shower. Jagger soaped me up, massaging it into my body and unknotting my muscles. The warmth of his hands and the water were great, but his scalp massage was even better. I moaned, the connection between us making the sensation even more satisfying. I started nodding off as he rinsed my hair.

“Don’t fall asleep yet,” he said with a chuckle, turning off the water. “Let’s dry you off.”

He helped me dry myself off, even though I technically didn’t need it. Then, he helped me into bed. The covers and mattress and pillows were pure bliss after being knocked out on a concrete floor for who knew how long. I passed out as soon as Jagger got in the bed with me, spooning me from behind.

I had no idea how long I slept for. I woke up, disoriented and still in Jagger’s arms. He was sitting up, his back against the headboard. He looked down at me with so much warmth and affection that I nearly burst into tears. I burrowed my face in his chest instead, my fingers brushing the dark hair there.

“Hey, there,” he said. “Sleep well?”

“Slept hard.” I yawned and stretched. “And well.”

“Good. We need to talk with Tommy.” He brushed some flyaway hairs at my hairline back. “You ready for it?”

“Yes. Definitely.” My stomach growled, and I smiled, my cheeks warming. “As long as I can grab some food first.”

We got dressed, swung by the central palace kitchens to eat a quick meal, then went out to a car to take us to the prisoners’ complex. I felt a thousand times better now that I had slept and had food in my system, but the memory of that vivid dream—or vision?—came back.

“I think I had a vision?” I couldn’t keep the question out of my voice.

“A vision? What do you mean?” Jagger asked.

“It was a very vivid dream, like I was there, but a ghost. Rouhaven was in total chaos, and the Moon Oracle had… Well, she had killed you, Lex, and Flint.”

Jagger didn’t respond, but he frowned.

“But it didn’t happen, so maybe it was just a very vivid dream?” I continued. “I don’t know.”

“Visions aren’t entirely unheard of,” he said. “But they’re rare. Then again, you’re rare, too.”

“Maybe we’ll find out soon when we do more research into my family.”
