“Damn right.” Liam nodded, his expression firm. “And neither should you.”

“But she… She told me she needed space. She said she needs to focus on herself.”

“Maybe she told you that like you told her she should go to Japan,” Liam said.

“No.” I shook my head. “I can hear something’s different in her voice. Something’s changed.”

“Tristan,” Enzo said, placing a hand on my shoulder. “Do you love her?”

I nodded. There was no doubt in my mind—I loved Elle.

“Does she know that?” he asked, shaking me a bit.

I dropped my head. I’d tried to show her, but I’d never actually said the words.

“Then go to her,” he said.

“I’m scared,” I finally admitted, feeling fucking vulnerable.

“Understandably so.” Enzo squeezed my shoulder before releasing me. “But life’s short. You don’t want to live with regrets.”

How many times had Tessa told me that? How many times had Elle said those words? Had I repeated them to myself?

And yet here I was, wasting time. Letting fear get the better of me.

“You’re right,” I said, realizing the answer had been staring at me all along. I just hadn’t been ready to accept it. And thanks to my hesitation and fear, I’d wastedmonths. “I have to go to Japan.”

“Attaboy.” Liam grinned. “Now, what do you need from us?” he asked, springing into action. He’d always been the leader of the group.

“I-I need someone to watch the kids for a week while I go to Japan. I don’t want to get their hopes up, so we’ll have to tell them it’s a business trip or something.”

“Done,” Liam said. “Penny and I will take care of them. We can stay at your house if they’d be more comfortable there.”

“Thank you,” I said, my shoulders relaxing now that I knew the kids would be taken care of.

“Plane tickets.” My mind was spinning. I needed to pack.God, I hope my passport isn’t expired.

“On it.” Enzo pulled out his phone. “I’m sure Crew would be more than happy to let you use his private jet to get to LA.”

Crew Dixon was the owner of the LA pro football team, the Hollywood Heatwaves. He was good friends with Enzo and Harrison Hayes, both retired pro athletes. And Crew was a local—he grew up in Blue River.

Still, Crew and I were more acquaintances than friends. And while he was a nice guy, asking to borrow his private jet seemed outlandish.

“It’s done,” Enzo said before I could protest. “Then you need flights from LA to…where is it?”

“Naruto, Tokushima.”

“When do you want to leave?”

“End of next week.” I sighed, wishing I could go immediately but thinking of all the preparations that needed to be made.

“I’ll give you a ride to the airport.” Bennett spoke up.

I shook my head. “You’ve got enough on your plate with a newborn.”

“It’ll be fine.”

“I can help with meals for the kids and anything else that comes up,” Asher offered.
