When he returned to the living room, he found Samara holding the bonsai tree they’d decorated last year. He’d told the others to make sure they left it out when they were decorating the house, but now that she had a real tree and her dislike of Christmas had been turned around they probably didn't need it anymore.

“Want me to take that back outside with the others?” he asked.

“No,” she said quickly, holding the tree tightly. “I want to keep it just like this forever. Last Christmas when we decorated this it was the first time I ever enjoyed anything Christmassy. After you left, I thought about taking the popcorn strings off, but I couldn’t, it was a symbol for me, of moving on, of trying to let thepast stay in the past. I think I’m still going to need that reminder some days. Every time I look at this cute little tree, I’ll think about you and how you turned my life around.”

“You did the same for me,” he told her. “After Heidi, part of me wished I was dead too, but now I don’t. Now I want to have a future with you, maybe have more kids in the future, if you want to,” he added quickly. They hadn't discussed the prospect of having children, so he wasn't sure exactly where Samara stood on the subject.

“Oh, I want to. I’d love to have a big family, at least three or four kids,” Samara said, and from the look in her eyes, he knew she wanted to make up for everything she had missed out on.

“I think I can manage that.” Michael took the bonsai tree from her arms and set it back down beside the big tree, then he picked Samara up and laid her down on top of the blanket he’d spread out in front of the fireplace. With the crackling fire in front of them, the Christmas tree beside them, all the fairy lights twinkling, he couldn’t think of a more perfect place to make love for the first time officially a couple.

His eyes met Samara’s, and the love shining through them hit him right in the heart. He’d never had a woman look at him like that before. His daughter had loved him but that was different, that was the love of a father and child, he’d never beeninlove before.

This feeling inside him right now was indescribable.

It filled him up, every single atom of his being touched by it.

It was almost like it was alive.

Michael couldn’t imagine doing anything to ruin this.

He knew he would never do anything to shatter her trust in him ever again.

He didn't break eye contact as he leaned down and kissed her. Even when her eyes fluttered closed, he didn't look away. He wanted to watch every reaction. He wanted to see the emotionsand feelings fly across her face, he wanted to memorize every single second of this.

“Condom?” he asked.

“We don’t need one. I want to feel every inch of you, and I don’t care if we make a baby.”

Neither did he.

His hands found their way to her stomach and slipped under her sweater. Her skin was so soft, so smooth, he could touch her forever and never get enough. While one hand drifted higher, claiming one of her breasts and kneading it, the other dipped lower inside her waistband to touch her in the place he couldn’t wait to be buried inside.

“Michael,” she moaned, squirming restlessly beneath him.

“Impatient as ever, I see,” he teased, continuing to drive her crazy with his hands, applying just enough pressure to make her wild but not enough to let her come.

“Please,” she whimpered.

That was enough to snap the string binding his self-control, and he eased her jeans and panties down her legs, then shoved off his own and pushed inside her in one smooth thrust.

Finally.

Finally, Michael was inside her.

Samara didn't think she would have been able to wait another second. She hadneededhim, she’d needed to feel close to him, needed their bodies to be joined together so that she knew that what she was feeling was real and not just excitement and joy over the amazing evening he’d given her.

But as they moved together, she knew.

For sure.

Without a single ounce of a doubt.

She loved Michael. Together they could have everything.
