“Well, a baby ties you together more.”

“You never had children, did you, Gretchen?”

“No,” Gretchen said. “I couldn’t find a man that I wanted to be with long enough.”

More like no one wanted to be with her, but she’d never say that.

“It’s not easy to find the right person,” she said.

“But you seem to be doing well,” Gretchen said. “I heard you’ve been seeing the new owner for the Whitney Marina.”

“Wright Marina,” she corrected.

Gretchen smirked at her and held up an arrangement. “How much is this one discounted?”

It was the smallest one there, but a sale was a sale. “Thirty percent,” she said.

“I think I’ll take this one. Wesley seems to be quite a catch,” Gretchen said. “Widower with a lot of money. I bet there are a lot of women that would be interested in him.”

“I doubt he’d be interested in that type of woman,” she said.

“Jasmine,” Rose said. “There is a call for you in the back. I’ll cash Gretchen out for you if you want.”

“Thanks,” she said.

She moved past Rose and to the back, asking Poppy, “Who is on the phone for me?”

Ivy was standing there. “No one. I overheard that woman being spiteful to you,” Ivy said. “I mentioned it to Poppy that I hated people like that. She popped her head in and then said she’d take care of it.”

Jasmine looked at Poppy and her eyes started to itch with the telltale sign of tears over how those sisters always bonded together for each other. And they just did for her too. “Thank you.”

She turned and left, shutting herself in the bathroom and crying.

She’d never been this emotional a day in her life, but what should be a happy time was turning into anything but.

Now she had to figure out how to fix what just happened with her and Wesley.

Last time he came to her when he knew something wasn’t right. This time she had to go to him. Fair was fair.

A Big Thing

The last thing Wesley expected was Jasmine to show up at his house tonight. Not after she left so abruptly earlier. He was thinking that he shouldn’t have listened to his mother and let Jasmine go and was going to reach out to her tomorrow. There was no way he was letting this go on too long.

They had to talk and he had to explain what she’d heard.

“I didn’t think you’d be here tonight,” he said.

She walked in and sat on the couch. “It would have been easier to go home, but I couldn’t. I’m miserable right now.”

“You’re not alone.”

“The last time I let things fester,” she said. “I tend to do that and have tried not to over the years. My mother always told me to speak my mind. I think she wanted me to not let something build up. But I did that before when I found Noelle’s picture. You came to me. You made me feel like I could come to you.”

That might have been the best thing she could have said to him. “I want you to always feel that way,” he said.

“Who was that person?”
