“Aren’t you a smart one,” she said, winking at him.

“I have my moments.”

They talked a bit more about the business and when he was getting ready to leave, she stopped him. “Are you having dinner with Jasmine tonight?”

“I am,” he said.

He didn’t say anymore. He figured she’d ask. Which she did. “Things are going well?”

“They seem to be.”

“What are your thoughts on her sister moving in with her in a few weeks?”

“I have no thoughts,” he said. “We rarely spend time at her apartment. I don’t think it’s going to take away from the time the two of us have together.”

“Most likely not.”

“Then what is this all about?” he asked.

“Nothing more than wanting to talk and see how things were going.”

“They are good,” he said. “Lily had her baby last night.”

“So I heard when Jasmine stopped in earlier. Why didn’t you tell me?” his mother asked.

“I hadn’t realized you’d want to know. You only met her that once.”

“So?” his mother said. “I’d still like to know. We are doing business with Blossoms. It’s a working relationship. I’ll reach out to Jasmine if you don’t mind to see if I can have some food sent over. I’m sure Lily won’t feel like cooking for a while.”

“Whatever you think,” he said.

These weren’t things he’d ever thought of before in his life. Noelle did that when they had friends and family with birthdays and babies. Even holidays.

Maybe he was spoiled, but Noelle loved doing those things and he’d never had time. Or so he said. He probably should have made the time.

“You’re a guy. You don’t understand how much fun it is,” his mother said.

“Yep. That’s right. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to finish a few things up and try not to get soaked going back to my office.”

“This rain is horrible. It’s supposed to finally stop in an hour or so.”

“I hope,” he said. “People are still in and out of the marina but not as much. I don’t blame them. Who wants to go out on the water in the rain if they don’t have to?”

“Not me,” his mother said.

He left the restaurant and walked quickly back to his office. At this point the rain was getting lighter but still coming down.

After another two hours of work, he decided to call it a day. It was earlier than he figured, but there was no reason to wait any longer. He was looking forward to seeing Jasmine again.

When he left the office this time, the rain had stopped and the sun was finally coming out. There were puddles everywhere and people pulling into the marina as he was driving out. Probably those wanting to get out on the water now.

He was starting to wonder if he should buy a boat. Wouldn’t it stand to reason if he owned a marina that he’d have a boat himself?

He wasn’t sure why he was even thinking these things.

Since he was out early, he ran to the store and picked up some groceries. It felt like he had little time to do anything anymore. He grabbed some ice cream and hot fudge. He’d heard Jasmine say the other day she was dying for it. Of course it was ninety out then so maybe the craving had passed.

He pulled into his driveway at exactly six to see Jasmine coming in behind him.
