Kirill’s eyes bug and he slaps the palm of his hand on his forehead. “I should have figured it out. You love sushi.”

“Loved,” I correct. “Currently, it is enemy numero uno. Even the thought makes me queasy.”

He laughs and pulls me close. “Fuck me. We’re having a baby! Another baby. Holy—I can’t believe it.”

I kiss his cheek. “You know what I can’t believe? That you proposed to me without a ring.”

“Goddammit, I knew I forgot something.” Kirill digs in his back pocket and pulls out a black box. I’ve never seen him so flustered in my life. It’s adorable. “I completely forgot. The symbol of our love is a pretty important part of the proposal. But in the excitement and the—”

He moves to open the box, but before he can, I rest my hand over his. “Wait.”

“What?” he frowns.

“I can’t wait to see which ring you picked out for me, but no matter how amazing it is, that ring is not a symbol of our love, Kirill.” I arch into his warmth and wrap my arms around his neck. “You and me. Yuliana and our new baby. That’sthe symbol of our love. The life and family we’ve built is the symbol of our love. And no one can take that from us.”

Kirill slowly slides the ring box back into his pocket and then glides his huge, warm hands under the hem of my shirt to settle over my skin. The air between us prickles with energy. I have a feeling I won’t be seeing that ring for another hour at least.

“I love you, Rayne,” he whispers, kissing my jawline.

I hook a leg over his hip and whisper back, “Prove it.”
