“You’re early.” I can’t hide the limp or the damage to my body.

“What the fuck happened?” Carter moves toward me after setting his beer down.

“Your sister was kidnapped. I killed a bodyguard. Grabbed his prints before he was taken by the coroner. I’ll search and find out what we are up against.”

“You let her get taken!” I watch as his body tightens up and he tries to come at me, but I pull my gun. I’ll fight dirty; I don’t have time for this shit.

“I’ll maim you. I won’t kill you because I don’t think my girl will approve of me shooting her twin. Especially if I plan to marry her.” I chuckle, but with my busted lip it’s more of a groan. I move past him into the house, leaving the car in the driveway ready to go.

“What the fuck are you talking about, asshole?” He advances on me again.

“Your sister and I tried to start something before she took off, but I fucked up.”

“Wait. She was with youandLuca?”

I swing around and hold in the groan from the pull of my sore muscles. I drop my jacket, giving myself time to cool down before I address the elephant in the room.

“She was never with Luca. They were just friends,” I grit out.

“Why didn’t she say that?” He shakes his head like he was just enlightened. Fucker is a stubborn asshole.

The front door swings open and both of us have guns aimed at the person entering. It’s Brielle, and she’s dirty, bruised, and limping from missing a heel. I move toward her, hoping my girl comes in behind her.

“Where is she?” I demand, not asking if she’s okay. She smirks at me and shakes her head.

“No hello. How are you? Are you okay, Brielle? Brielle, I saw you get hit. Is anything broken?” She pauses. “No. Okay, asshole. They took her. Dropped me off on the side of the road. No, wait, they threw me out of the car. Barely fucking stopped.” She limps past me, and I carefully grip her arm.

“I’m sorry. Are you okay? Where is Callie?”

“They took her. I heard them say they were heading to the docks. I think they are heading to another island because they mentioned one of the harbors that caters to yachts.”

“Brielle? Brielle Waterson?” Carter asks as he moves over to us. He helps her to a sofa and stands back.

“Don’t look so surprised. Your sister and I were friends.”

“No, you weren’t.” Carter instantly denies it.

“Yes, we were. Even if you and the rest of your family didn’t approve of me, Callie and I were close.”

“Why did she come here?”

“She had nowhere else to go.” Brielle’s back straightens, and I watch them before I go get the first aid kit for both of us. When I return to the room, they are in a standoff.

“Are you telling me you talked my sister into stripping?”

I’m across the room and drop the kit for Brielle, then take Carter’s shirt front in my fists. He’s not as tall as me, but we are both about the same weight. He’s got a bit more muscle, but I think it would be a fair fight between us.

“She’s not a stripper. Just a dancer.”

“Why would she do that? Jeez, she’s out of control.” He yanks himself back from me and then rips his hands through his hair. “Ever since she left Kyle, she has been rolling through life shitting on it and everyone that tries to help her.”

Brielle is up and in his face now. “Listen here, prick. She didn’t leave Kyle, he fucking cheated on her. Had been since the beginning. He married his bitch on a weekend in Vegas and thought your sister would still sleep with him. But he didn’t know his bitch decided to rub it in on Callie and told her first. She hasn’t been fucking things up. You all assumed she was flighty. She quit school because she was heartbroken. Then you all took his side. She knew you all wouldn’t believe her. She’s been alone for years. As for that shit that went down in Scotland, she was with him.” Her arm swings toward me. “Actually, she wanted to be with him. That kid, Luca, was with the girl. She had nothing to do with them breaking up. She was friends with him, that’s all. You and your family judged her and didn’t even care to hear her story. She was guilty before she was proven innocent. You all are fucking stuck-up assholes.”

She turns to look at me. “I only came here because Callie said if she was ever in trouble, you’d find her. You proved it by coming for her. Now, are you going to take his side or hers?” She crosses her arms across her chest. She’s the dark avenging angel. I knew some of the story that she confirmed with Carter, but not all of it.

“I’ll always go after her. She is mine.”

“Good. The guys who took her were talking on a video call when I came to. I pretended I was still unconscious. They were speaking to a guy; I never got his name. The guys in the limo were Rusty, the bodyguard, not sure what his last name is. The suit is Benedict Armier. He’s been into the club a couple of times. He’s always asking for her.”
