But even with all this, his status as aNecromancerhad him despised and looked down on in the supernatural communities.Fools.

“You’re just—”

“What's the outer world visit for then, Rhys?” He grins, cutting me off.

“At night, with sex-crazed Mirin…" he teases, his smile growing into a knowing smug smirk.

I sigh and roll my eyes as Isaac chuckles.

“It's fine, Rhys. Everyone hasneeds, right?” he continues to jeer.

“With the drop of female supes in recent years, you can have your pick. Just don't come back with anythingtoocrazy…again.” He chuckles, looking at the dents permanently fixed to my bedroom door.

“That wasonetime, and how was I supposed to know those twins were incubus hybrids.”

“It tookdayscleaning that mess up.” He gives me a tired look.

“Still a good time,” I mumble, smiling.

“I heard that.” Isaac shakes his head and starts making his way down the stairs again.

“Let's get you something to eat before you go out man-hunting.”

“I’m not hungry.” I was still feeling a bit nauseous from the Transferral.

“Nope, it's not up for discussion. You skipped breakfast. I’ll at least make you a sandwich.” He turns as he reaches the second floor and looks at me, a glint in his eye daring me to challenge him.

I put my hands up and sigh. “Fine.”

I make my way toward him, and we head to the kitchen on the first floor.I couldn't cook for my life, preferring take away or ready-made meals to the hellish chore.

Thankfully I was blessed with Isaac, who, for some reason, enjoyedcooking.I was blessed with his delicious homemade meals and freshly baked goods. His croissants were tiny pieces of flaky heaven.Well, whenever he wasn’t too engrossed in reading and remembered to eat…and function like a normal person, which was, unfortunately, a regular thing.

We turn to head into the kitchen just as a loud alarm rings out.

A fire alarm?

No…the sound was strange and way too loud for that.

Isaac and I look at each before instinctively moving toward the main Library. We make it through the door and bump straight into Mirin coming toward us.

“What's with the Mama of all alarms? Why is it making that noise?!” She places her hands over her ears and furrows her brows, looking between Isaac and me.

“Isaac?” Maybe he’d have more information on this than I would.

He hesitates before shaking his head, “No idea. Maybe we should check some of Isaiah’s notes and books in his private office.”

Isaiah was my and Isaac’s mentor and my predecessor. We were the only disciples chosen by Isaiah, who was a respected Mage in the supe community for his power, knowledge, and prophetic abilities. He also holds the longest position as a Librarian in history, over ninety years without suffering from any side effects. A true testament to his power.

He disappeared two years ago with just a note in an unreadable script left in his room.Isaac and I have been searching for him while continuing our daily lives.

He was always a mystery and a bit mischievous at times too, but his thirst for knowledge was unparalleled. If there was anyone who knew what this was, it would’ve been Isaiah.

Unfortunately, he’s not here, but maybe he had written about it.

I brush my hand down my face and exhale. The alarm blares above us as Isaac leaves.I collect myself as I turn around and head toward the reception desk, Mirin following close behind.

Whatever's going on, I have to figure it out, and soon, before Mirin blows up and starts flinging her magic around to stop the noise. Better keep the witch busy.
