We’d been together too long. Too many years, too many memories, both good and bad together.

It couldn’t have been a lie. We had been through too much, fought prejudice and pain together too many times for it to be.

If anyone knew Isaac…it wasme, and this…thiswasn’t him.

I don't know what's going on or why this happened, but I need to find out. I need a reason for why this happened, why he did this. Maybe he was being threatened. Maybe he had some crazy reason for doing it.

I don’t know…but I’m going to find out.

I open my eyes, my nausea and dizziness slowly easing as I pull myself together.

There had to be a reason, some explanation for him to do this, and I would find it andhim.

I stand on trembling legs as I pull myself from the floor, catching myself on the crumbling wall nearby as I stumble.

My breathing calms, my eyes narrowing at the dark silver ring still in my hand.

I’ve lost Isaiah, and I won’t lose you too. Whatever reason you had for doing this, you never should have kept it from me. I could have helped. I clench my hand around the ring, my knuckles turning white from the grip.

Maybe the Interitus did something to you…or threatened you.

I’ll find him first…and thenthem. And I’ll make sure they regret ever touching my home and my people.

My eyes and mind now clearer, I make my way to the door, taking one last look behind me.

I would find the Autarium and Isaac and bring them home.No matter what.

CHAPTER TWENTY TWO

I tie my hair up,my loose red ombre curls falling onto my back.

I adjust the laces on my black combat boots and grab my oversized bomber jacket, catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror as I make my way to my bed.

I finish my outfit off with some tight black ripped jeans and a matching white vest top, dressed comfortably. To go hunting.

I sit on my bed, my hand sliding down to the dreamcatcher hanging above my headboard.

The monochrome threads and beads lace through each other, forming a beautiful swirling effect, layering on top of one other to form an intricate rose design. Isaac had made it for me.

My hand brushes gently against the rich black and red feathers as I further my resolve.

I reach for the small teal ornate bowl sitting on top of the small dresser beside my bed.

I take two rings and a pendant from the bowl, placing the long necklace around my neck first. I twist the first ring onto my right middle finger, the silver engravings glinting in the dimly lit room.

And the second, a black metal band, onto my left middle finger, a slight blue hue gleaming from it as I put it on. Each of the pieces of jewelry is imbued with a different magic, all of which I’ll need and use soon enough.

Finally, I place Isaac’s platinum ring on my thumb, brushing my fingers over the cold metal. I’ll return it to its rightful owner soon.

I hear a creak from the stairs, pulling me from my thoughts and then another. The sound is almost eerie as it becomes louder, someone coming nearer. But who would come up here? To the attic floor? Maybe a stray shifter had made it away from the group during the battle orsomethingelse?

I call to my power, trying to push some strength into my body, but just as it forms around me, it quickly disperses. Maybe I was still too tired from the last battle, my power not having enough time to restore itself fully.

I grab the nearest weapon I could feel in the drawer beside me, something strong and hard to use.

I flicker the small lights off, better for a surprise attack, especially if there's more than one.

The room goes dark as the floorboards outside my bedroom moan and creak with the weight of multiple steps…so more than one.Great.
