I found my way to Dalton.

“Macey baby?” The sound of Dalton’s deep, slightly sleepy voice broke up my thoughts, and I turned to see him standing there with a small smile playing over his face. “You okay?” He ran the heel of his hand over his eye then slid it up to run his fingers through his hair.

Before I knew what he was doing, Dalton was right in front of me and pulled me in for an embrace. I melted against him and smiled even though he couldn’t see me. God, it felt so good to be held by him. It felt so right.

“You make me so damn happy,” he whispered.

“Me too,” I whispered back.

He pulled back and cupped my face, his expression almost as if he felt euphoric. Or maybe I was projecting my own feelings onto him, onto this situation?

“Is it crazy or too fast if I say I won’t let you go, that I can’t?” He smoothed his fingers over my cheeks. “Is it insane to tell you that I feel like you’re meant to be mine, that I’ve never felt this way about anyone in my entire life?” He leaned in close and kissed me gently on the lips.

I slowly shook my head when he pulled back and looked in my eyes. “If it’s crazy,” I whispered, “then I’m just as certifiable as you, because I feel the same way.”

His grin was blinding, and before I knew it, Dalton was kissing me passionately, consuming me, and claiming me in every way. He lifted me onto the counter, spread my legs wide by moving between them, and I let the blanket fall to the floor.

“That’s good, Macey,” he groaned and reached between us to pull his sweatpants down and free his already hard cock. “That’s real good, because I’d chase you to the ends of the world and make you see that you’re mine.”

Being with Dalton was like nothing I’d ever experienced before, and hearing him say he wouldn’t let me go was exactly what I wanted to hear.

It was exactly what I needed him to say.

We were meant for each other. I knew that with everything in my body.

Several days later

I felt like so much had changed in the last couple days since Dalton and I gave into each other, since we expressed how we felt, what we wanted.

Things felt like they’d fallen right into place.

I stepped out of the house and felt the wind move across my hair. I lifted my hand and shielded my eyes from the sun, looking over the property to see if I could spot Dalton, Charlie, and Jax. I didn’t see Dalton right away, but the brothers were off in the distance working with the horses.

I had a pot roast cooking in the oven for dinner, some roasted potatoes and carrots, homemade rolls, and even made a strawberry shortcake with fresh berries I bought from the farmer’s market just this morning.

It was so strange how in such a short amount of time I felt like this was home, like this was where I was always meant to be.

Dalton had moved all my things into his room before I even realized. And I couldn’t get mad at him, not when I’d been secretly hoping he’d take the imitative and do it. I didn’t want to sleep without him right next to me.

I walked over to the bell Dalton installed on the porch banister and rang it, signaling dinner was about ready. It would take them a good twenty minutes to clean things up, so I always rang it a bit before dinner.

Jax and Charlie started putting the horses back in the stables, and I focused on Dalton, watched as he cleaned things up then headed my way. I couldn’t help the silly grin that spread across my face. The sun was starting to set, and the glare that had been in my eyes just moments before started to fade as the dusky hues of pinks and oranges covered the sky.

And then Dalton was at the bottom of the porch steps, his grin big, infectious. “Hey, baby,” he said in a low, sexy drawl.

“Hey right back at you, cowboy.”

He gave me a wink, and I felt my heart flutter in my chest. Dalton ascended the steps, and when he was right in front of me, he wrapped his muscular arms around me and pulled me in tight. I sank against him immediately. He smelled like a man, all clean sweat, straw, and hard work. I loved that scent more than anything else.

“This feels good,” I whispered and inhaled deeply, taking in that scent that was all Dalton.

“It sure as fuck does,” he groaned and tightened his arms around me. “I’ve never felt anything better than having you in my arms.”

I couldn’t help but smile at that.
