"You fucking, fucking bitch!"

A strangled sob rushes out of my throat as Julius grabs my hair from behind, and his fingers dig painfully into my scalp as he yanks me back and throws me on the floor.

"You know what your problem is?"

I thrash and struggle against his hold, but his strength is inhuman.

Preternatural.

And another sob claws out of my throat as Julius' crazy blue eyes reveal the murderously rotten core of his soul.

MICHALIS WAITED INthe shadows yet again. A shapeshifter was only able to hear sounds and track scents up to a certain distance, but the abilities of primals like him had always been far keener. It was one of the few good things that came with being the only survivor of one's species, and it was this that allowed him to hunt unseen and unheard.

The sun was dangerously close to setting by the time Catalina stepped out of his tower, and as soon as she started running towards the station, it was the man's turn to reveal himself.

His speed was preternatural, but his move was severely lacking in grace and agility. It was almost as if he had been human his entire life...until he was not, and the similarity between this man's transformation and Catalina's was not lost on him.

Catalina boarded the train as soon as it arrived, but the man waited until the train had started to move before scampering up to its roof.

It was as if the man was hiding from Catalina as well...or was this a ploy to convince Michalis that Catalina and the man had nothing to do with each other?

He only started running when the train eventually sped out of view, and he stayed back far enough to prevent his scent from betraying his presence, but near enough for him to make another attempt at reading both of their minds.

Keep it together, Cat.

The wall that had been blocking her thoughts from being read was gone. There wasn't a trace of it left, and he could now read her like a book like he always had.

Safe, I'm safe, thank God.

She seemed to be trying to convince herself she was safe, and that she was worrying herself over nothing.

Paranoid much, Cat?

It's almost like being in a horror movie all on my own...

Because the King isn't with me.

Michalis mentally slammed the door shut on Catalina's thoughts. He had given her a chance to explain herself, but she had continuously refused to tell him the truth. She had left him no fucking choice but to get rid of her.

The pulsing between her legs was strangely quiet, its ability to release pheromones greatly diminished.

He let his mind wander to the other man next, and he couldn't help but stiffen when the stranger's thoughts appeared to be running on a frequency that was neither human nor preter.

The only thing he could decipher was a turbulent form of rage that was brewing closer and closer to the surface, and even with Michalis fully focused on decoding the man's thoughts, the way the stranger's rage exploded without warning still managed to catch him off guard.

"Hello, Cat."

The silent terror that immediately seized Catalina by the neck was all that Michalis needed to sense.

Fuck, fuck, fuck!

Something was clearly fucking wrong, and Michalis started running in full speed.

"Aren't you going to say hi?"

"You're not supposed to come near—-"
