“That’s not what I’ve heard,” she purred. “In fact, I was told that your wife isn’t even living with you at the moment.”

A flash of rage overcame me. I pressed her against the closest wall with my hand around her throat. “I don’t know or care to know what youthink.I am married to Hana, andsheis the only woman I want. No one, especially not you, could ever take her place.”

“It doesn’t matter,” she strained. “Appearances are everything.”

I breathed through my nose telling myself that I couldn’t murder a pregnant woman in the middle of my workplace. Not so soon after killing Luke. “No matter who you tell, the truth is the truth. I don’t want you. I’ve never wanted you.”

“Once it gets out that I’m pregnant with your child, Hana won’t want anything to do with you,” she stammered. “That’s not my fault. Your parents—”

I squeezed lightly so she knew I wasn’t the man to fuck with. “If you keep pushing, keep scheming, you’ll find yourself looking for another job. Are we clear?”

“C-crystal.”

I walked away from her furious. I’d never hit a woman before and didn’t want to start now. But Bethany knew how to press my buttons, and damn if I didn’t want to explode. One part of me wanted to terminate her ass from her position effective immediately, but then I remembered why I bothered letting her keep her job in the first place: for better or worse, she was probably carrying my niece or nephew. I was doing my part, as minimal as it might be, to be a decent human being.

As I climbed into my car, I knew this thing with Bethany wasn’t done. Not yet. She probably wouldn’t give up, but I could demote her to another position, especially if Hana came back to work. I didn’t want Bethany making her uncomfortable.

I decided it was best if Hana stayed home and rested anyway. I noticed how she didn’t really eat at lunch, and she weighed nothing on my lap. Hell, if Hana never wanted to work ever again, that would be fine with me too. As long as she was in my life, that was all I cared about.

I got home quickly and rushed into our apartment ready to see my woman. I unlocked our door but didn’t hear any sounds from inside.

“Hana?” I called out, turning on the lights as I walked through. “Are you sleeping?”

No answer. I checked the kitchen, our bedroom, and the spare room, calling her name as I went. She wasn’t there.

She disobeyed me. I bet her and Joseph were back in his apartment, lying in bed, laughing at what a total dumbass I was. Well, I would make them wish they hadn’t been born. Both of them.

I turned around, ready to head upstairs and when the front door opened.

“Logan?” Hana called out, her voice small, but echoing off the walls.

“I’m back here, little Hana.” I stepped out of the second bedroom and headed into the living room.

Hana stood there with Joseph standing directly behind her, and my elation deflated. I’d hoped she left him back at his place, but apparently, she wasn’t ready for us to be alone yet.

“I see you brought company.” I couldn’t help the snark in my voice. It grated that she didn’t want to be alone with me. Her husband. The man who only wanted to give her the best. “I just got in, so I haven’t had time to figure out what we were doing for dinner.”

“We could go out to eat if you’d like?” Hana tugged on the straps of her dress. She looked even more beautiful than before. Joseph looked dashing as well in plaid pants and a blazer over a white V-neck sweater.

“Sure. We could do that. Where did you want to go?” I’d give her everything if she’d just let me.

“There’s a new place opened up downtown if you all want to go try it out.” Joseph inserted.

I took a second before responding, not wanting to bite his head off. “Do they have anything good?”

He shrugged. “It’s Ciao Matto.”

Hana giggled. The sound soothing my soul and sending butterflies straight to my gut.

“Sounds like a plan.” I grabbed my keys, but Joseph stopped me.

“Uhm, no. I’m driving.” He jingled his pocket, and I had to hold back a responding growl.

I didn’t want to start the night off on the wrong foot, so we filed out without any more protests. Joseph in front, Hana between us, and me bringing up the rear. For some reason, while this felt awkward, it also felt right. I could almost imagine things were how they should have been had Hana not had the misfortune of meeting my brother. Would we have eventually dated? Would we have started out like this, just three friends going out to eat?

We got to Joseph’s truck and climbed in. Hana sat in the middle between us. While Joseph started the truck, I worked at getting Hana buckled up. I wanted her to be safe, but I got a lot more in return when I reached my arm across her and she gasped. Her nipples pebbled, poking through the thin material of her dress. Of course, she wasn’t wearing a fucking bra, and Joseph had the air conditioning on its coldest setting.

Fuck. My cock throbbed in response to her breath hitching. I wanted so much more.
