I’d been selfish. I should have been putting Hana first, like Joseph had been trying to do. Instead, I had kept him away from her. But I was not ready to share my wife even if it would make her happier. I was not in that place right now. If I’m being honest with myself, I was not sure I’d ever be there.

I carefully made my way to their bathroom and ran the shower water as hot as it would go. I wasn’t quite sure what I was feeling, but I knew that I wanted to see my wife. She probably wouldn’t want to see me, though. I would give her time and space.

After scrubbing myself down and drying off, I went into Joseph’s room. Since he was bisexual, I was certain he would have some kind of salve I could use for my ass. I went through all his drawers without success but hit the jackpot in his closet. In a box full of sex toys and accessories, there was a salve for tearing. It would only help a little, but a little bit of help was better than none.

Once I applied it, I went to Hana’s old room and tumbled into a dreamless sleep.

? ? ?

The next morning, I headed back to my place to get ready for work. I hadn’t seen either Hana or Joseph. I hoped they were together at least. I had to fight the beast inside that was telling me to skip work and go get my woman. She was at her parent’s house. She was fine. There was nothing I could do there but cause problems.

As soon as I stepped off the elevator at AiCart, Bethany swarmed my personal space.

“What are you doing here?” I snapped at her. I didn’t want to see her fucking face. Not after the way she showed up to Joseph’s acting like she owned me.

“Your mother has been trying to reach you.” Bethany said, her voice full of false cheer.

“Why are you here?” I snarled.

“You need me.” She shrugged one shoulder, her hand resting on the gradual swelling of her stomach.

“I told you last night that you were on leave, effective immediately.”

“Oh, Logan. I know you don’t mean that. You’re just feeling the pressure of this job. I know!” She snapped her fingers like she had the solution to world hunger. “Why don’t I accompany you to the next business meeting in Texas and—”

“No.” I declined before she had even finished her thought. “Hana is more than able to come and assist me. It’s her job, is it not?”

“Where has your little wife been? Not here, helping you with the company. I’ve been here for you. I’vealwaysbeen here for you.” Her tone dropped suggestively.

“Yeah, me and about a thousand other men,” I mumbled.

Bethany shot me a hurt look, curling into herself. “That sounded like something Luke would say.”

I couldn’t stand fake women, and Bethany was faker than most. She was looking for a meal ticket, and I wasn’t the ride for her. I swear, if she weren’t pregnant, I would beat her ass. The only reason I hadn’t had security clear her desk and throw her ass out is because she was carrying my niece or nephew, and I wanted that child taken care of.

“We both know I haven’t been anywhere near you.” I spoke slowly, hoping she would understand. “I’m not sure why you are doing this, or what crazy plan you have in that brain of yours—”

“Really? Can you prove it’s not yours?” she purred, her eyes flashing victoriously.

I couldn’t understand why she thought she was winning right now. “We can get a paternity test right now to show this baby isn’t mine.” I smirked, pleased I had backed her into a corner.

“My research tells me that in the case of twins and paternity, the DNA is so closely matched that there is no way to tell.” When she saw my face drop, she laughed.

“That can’t possibly be true,” I stammered. It wasn’t often that someone was able to completely blindside me, and this woman had been able to do it not once but twice in the span of two days.

“Are you willing to take that risk?” Her eyes flashed a challenge.

I wanted to accept, telling her that it wouldn’t matter, that even if she showed up with a fake paternity test, it wouldn’t change anything. Hana would love me no matter what…

My heart ached. Did she really love me? Or was she tolerating me because she couldn’t see a way out of her situation. Fuck if I knew.

“What do you want?” I sighed. Bethany was probably going to say something cheesy and clingy. Like she wanted me. Well, she couldn’t have me. Not now. Not ever.

She tapped her bottom lip like she was thinking. “I’m not sure. See, at first, I was going to say I wanted you to divorce Hana and marry me, but now? Now that you’ve treated me so badly and rejected me one too many times, I’m not sure. For now, I’mnottaking a leave of absence. Iwillbe going with you to Texas. You can’t stop me.”

“This won’t work long term. Eventually, you won’t have the power that you think you have right now.” I warned her. “I’m humoring you. Keep that in mind.”

“The way I see it is this. You’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. There isn’t a way out. So, I’ll be taking the rest of the day off to let you come to terms with all this, and I expect to get paid.”
