“What the fuck was that for?” Logan roared.

“For hurting my best friend.” I simply offered.

“How about when you hurt him? No one hauled off and slapped you.” Logan scowled.

“I thought that was what this was for.” I tapped the side of my throat so he could see the bruises in the light.

“That—that was because you disrespected me, and I lost control.”

When the blow came, I was stunned. Joseph punched Logan in the face. “Sorry, my hand slipped.” Joseph said, sheepishly shaking out his fist as Logan fell backward.

“Have you both gone mad?” Logan demanded to know, his eyes bugging out as he got back on steady feet. If this wasn’t so serious, I might’ve laughed at the ridiculousness of it all.

“This is toxic,” Joseph complained. “This whole relationship you both have going on is toxic.”

“What are we going to do?” I stepped away from both men. “Maybe it would be better if we all went our separate ways.” My heart said that wasn’t the answer, but I couldn’t see a logical way of making this work.

There had been too much history. We’d all been through too much. Someone had to stand up and say enough was enough. We tried and we failed. Maybe one day we could all be friends again, but I didn’t think that day would come anytime soon.

Chapter Twenty-Two

Joseph

“What are you saying, Hana?” I needed her to be as clear as day.

It hadn’t slipped my attention that the closer Logan and I got, the further Hana pulled herself from us.

“While you mean well trying to insert yourself between us, Jojo, I just don’t see a future.” Hana hung her head. “Not one where we are all happy together. It just isn’t possible.”

I knew what she was doing. She pushed our friendship and now doesn’t want to keep progressing. The thought hit me right in the chest. Pain lanced through my entire body. It flung me back to the first time I’d been rejected.

“Shh, no one’s home, Adam. We have my house all to ourselves.” A seventeen-year-old me helped him out of his shirt.

Adam and I had been fooling around since my mother sent me to bible camp a few summers ago. He was alone and hadn’t gotten into a clique yet. I was new and hadn’t met anyone who’d seemed fun enough to hang with.

His blonde hair shone in the sunlight and, before I could stop myself, I was sitting on the log by the lake next to him. Our hands brushed and it sent palpitations to my heart. I knew then I found the guy I could see myself with for a long time.

I pushed him backward onto the bed, but Adam held his hand out in front of him.

“Joseph, did you hear that thump?” He looked around my shoulder as if the devil himself was about to burst into my room and drag him to hell.

“I didn’t hear anything, baby. You’re being paranoid. My parents are traveling right now, and the Lees won’t check on me for another few hours.”

“You sure? It sounded like the garage—”

After my latest round of reassurances, Adam let me take his pants off. He removed my shirt. All I could hear was our heavy breathing and my heart thumping in my chest. My hands were clammy from nerves.

“I don’t know what I’m doing, but I want you to be my first, and I yours,” Adam whispered in my ear. “You feel so good against me,” he groaned in my ear. “I want to be your first. I must be your first. Soon.”

He was smaller than me, but what did I know about topping. I just knew that he was grinding his penis on top of mine, and it felt good. My ass throbbed like it wanted him to slide inside.

“Fuck, Adam, I want you to put it in,” I panted back. “Let’s just do it.”

Adam pulled back, causing me to whine. “Are you sure?”

I nodded. “Yes, I want you.”

He looked in my eyes as if trying to gauge my sincerity. After a moment, he helped me out of the rest of my clothes. We were both naked and unprepared. I opened my bedside table and moved my bible out of the way to retrieve the lube hidden under it.
