“I know, I know. It’s been a long time coming,” I said. “But today’s the day.”

“Is Uncle Scott coming, too? And Uncle Michael?”

Scott had served a sentence alongside Jason, being released a month before his brother. And he’d been there for us, not wasting a moment in helping out with Willa and the new baby.

And Michael had turned over a new leaf, too. His life of crime ended the day Anton was arrested. We’d put him to work at me and Jason’s new nonprofit, and he’d quickly proven himself a valuable asset.

“Of course they are,” said Jason. “They’re family, aren’t they?”

“Right,” said Willa. “And family always sticks together.”

“You got it, Sprout,” he said, leaning forward and placing a kiss on the top of her head.

We were getting married. I’d been anticipating the day for a long, long time. But now that it had finally arrived, I realized that while a wedding was fun and great, all I really needed was right there with me.

“I love you,” said Jason, Simon in his arms. “All of you. I’m the happiest, luckiest man alive.”

“Love you too, Daddy,” said Willa. “And you, Mom.”

“And I love you all back. So, so very much.”

What more was there to be said? We were a family. It was all that mattered.

“Now,” I said with a smile. “Let’s go get married.”

Jason grinned right back. “You don’t have to tell me twice.”

The End
