Walking toward the subway station, my heels clicking on the cobbled pavement, I pick up the phone on the first ring and hold it in front of my face for our group video call. I love how Sarah has no time for Halima and I’s long dragged back and forth.

“You lyin’!” My sister yells.

I let out a snort and cover my mouth, looking around to see if anyone caught that, but thankfully the British are as un-intrusive as ever.

“No, I’m not lying. We just met at a private members’ club. And I think he lives here…”

“Oh My God!” Halima exclaims. “We found Barrett!”

We all laugh, then my sister asks, “what about Reda?”

“What about him?” I reply, sobering up.

Halima cocks her head to the side in her signature ‘don’t be daft’ move.

“Guys, I just thought it was funny to see him after all this time, and here. I wanted to share, that’s all. You can’t compare the guy I’ve been seeing for six months to some old crush.”

If they could exchange a knowing look through their phone screens, that’s what would happen right now.

Halima goes, “uh-huh.”

While my sister pacifies me with an unconvinced, “of course.”

I roll my eyes and add, “I’m sure he won’t even call.”

This time they both give me bugged-eye looks.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, back up one second. He won’tcall?…” Lima questions.

“Yeah, we exchanged business cards.”

“Who initiated the exchange?” Sarah, the Dr. Watson to Halima’s Sherlock Holmes, enquires.

“He asked for my number…” I grumble.

“Poor Reda,” my sister shakes her head with a wide, toothy grin.

Halima raises her arms, pumping the air, and doing a ridiculous victory dance.

“I’m getting in the tube. It’s gonna disconnect. I love you two, crazy ladies,” I giggle before adding, “and nothing will happen with Barrett,” just before losing them.

BARRETT

Mia Seydi. My Mia. What an amazing surprise!

For years, I kept her in a far corner of my mind. Only rarely revisiting the sweet memories of our childhood and images of the beautiful young woman she’d grown into. Like an old dream. A fantasy from another time and place.

I never expected to get the chance to finally talk to her, now that I’ve overcome my crippling shyness. What if she’s married? A voice whispers in my head.Well, I checked and there was no ring on her finger. She could still be seeing someone…The devil on my shoulder adds.Stop it, Barrett! My voice of reason booms, crushing my doubts. If fate brought Mia back into my life, this can only be good.

And she looked sofuckinggood. Still a solid foot shorter than me, and still mouthwateringly curvy. Actually more… Her round hips have widened just enough to get a solid grip on. Her full tits lookedfuckingfabulous in that silk blouse. And the long, shapely legs stretching for miles out of that fitted skirt would feel amazing thrown over my shoulders.Fuck, I’m getting hard. I pull up my mental file of basketball stats till I can get home and jump in a cold shower.

I’m coming for you, Mia. And this time I’m not letting you escape.
