“Hey there, big guy,” I say. “How are you doing?”
Our kiss flashes through my mind and I start feeling all giddy again. He looks handsome today, with the sun flashing off his magnificent scarlet scales.
“Olivia, I have just gone to finalize my contract for the subsidy, and something terrible happened.”
“What?” I frown. “Did they change their minds?”
“No, but there is only one subsidy and there was another applicant. Now I have to engage this fratvoyan in a brew off.”
“A brew off?” my mind reels with confusion.
“Yes, a taste test of our finished product, which will be judged by the people of New Verdan. The winner gets the subsidy.”
“You know, I met the most annoying Fratvoyan on the way over here,” I say. “No way could it be the same guy.”
“It is the same one, and he was saying some rude things about you.”
My mouth drops open with a gasp.
“Oh, you’ve got to take this guy on, and kick his butt.”
“I would have ate him, but the EC bylaws strictly prohibit that.”
“Well, we’re going to stop him into the dust.”
“We?”
“That’s right,” I say, slapping him on the shoulder. “We’re going to win, by god.”
I take out my com pad and start going through my contracts.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m going to send some messages to some of the best minds in the brewery business the galaxy has ever seen. They’ll teach you everything you need to know to beat that little creep.”
“Olivia, on the Frontier, messages can take weeks to get where they are going.”
“Not if you use Quantum Entanglement.”
“There is only one QE relay for this entire sector. That will not come cheap.”
I arch my brow at him and chuckle.
“Yes, but I’m rich. Don’t worry, Yarvok. I’ve got your back.”
