He smiles, his eyes dancing with pure joy. I find that I’m smiling too. I get to spend more time with the hunky alien man beside me.

We move up through the line until it’s our turn to speak to the clerk. When they try to tell me I need an appointment, I remind them icily that I am a major stockholder in the company. We get our room.

“Soon, we’re going to have the best team you’ve ever seen, Yarvok.” I pat him on the shoulder. “Together, we can’t lose.”

He gives me a smoldering look, one that turns my knees to water.

“Olivia,” he rumbles “together, there is nothing that we cannot do.”

With our experts hired and on their way, my stride has a little extra spring in it. Yarvok seems kind of mopey, though. I wonder why he’s acting this way at all. After all, he should be happy.

“Hey, what’s wrong?”

He turns his golden gaze my way, his lips a thin tight line.

“It is nothing.”

“It doesn’t look like nothing. You’re all broody and silent. I want to know why. Are you not excited about the experts I hired?”

“No, it’s not that, it’s…I don’t even have the stipend yet, and yet you’re spending your own money to make this succeed.”

“Yeah, because I want to beat that jerk…what’s his name?”

“I think the name on the application said Chadd Gordo.”

“Well, Chadd is a jerk and no way do I want to let him win.”

“It’s a lot of money.”

“Oh, is that what this is about?” I scoff and wave off his concerns. “Look, for the longest time I’ve been sitting on this enormous trust fund. I use it to travel and have fun, but it’s a whole different feeling to use it for good. I like helping you, Yarvok. It makes me feel like I’m using my resources and privilege in a positive way.”

He smiles and relaxes somewhat. The sun is thin and watery behind a hazy wisp of cloud when we walk outside. I don’t smell rain, so I doubt we’ll get wet. If I have to, I'll put up the canopy on my hover car.

“What’s next?” I ask.

“Next we need to find a site for the brewery,” Yarvok says.

“Right. About that, I kind of did some shopping around myself and found a few places on the holo net you might consider.”

“A few?”

“Not much more than a dozen.”

“A dozen?” He cocks his head to the side, incredulous.

“Not much more.” I clear my throat. “I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with your picks, but I thought it might be nice just to shop around a little before making your decision.”

He grins, and nods in acquiescence.

“Very well. To your conveyance, then.”

I take the hover car out to the first sight. The lot has plenty of room ,but I see a concern.”

“Well, this one is disqualified right off the bat.”
