Oliva is intelligent, sophisticated, refined…I never expected her to be fierce, too. When she slapped the taste out of Chadd’s mouth, I felt most of my anger dissipate. Clearly she is worthy to be the mate of any Vakutan.

They say that the Precursors seeded the galaxy with the various sapient species, and that deep down we all share a common ancestor. That would explain a lot, especially how nearly any species can mate and create fertile offspring with each other.

But perhaps there is some trace of Vakutan ferocity in humans, and maybe some careful insight and planning of humans inside of us Vakutan.

How could I possibly complain about Olivia’s behavior? If I would have gotten physical with the fratvoyan, it would have been ugly. It might even have been fatal, and not just for Chadd Gordo.

It’s quite likely, in fact, that he would have accidentally or on purpose vomited explosive materials and blown us all sky high.

In any event, Olivia saved me a trip to the jailhouse if nothing else. Nobody ever believes that the Vakutan didn’t start the fight, especially if they are definitely the ones who ended it.

She has a heart of pure fire. Angry, passionate, it’s all the same. I love the thrill of being with her. She is no mere pushover or spoiled heiress. She is a veritable dragon of the stars.

We go through the luxury prefab house, and find that while it is well appointed they neglected to provide furnishings. Oliva and I sit on the retaining wall outside the home and go over our choices.

Olivia orders more than we really need or can fit in the house, but then she points out that it won’t go to waste.

“We can sell anything we decide we don’t like, or use it to furnish the brewery offices. Trust me, Yarvok, I’ve had an account with Zilgar-Feinstein for my entire life. My parents probably inspired half of their fall collection.”

I let the matter drop, and we spend a few days opening deliveries and setting them up in the house. Thankfully my Vakutan muscle comes in handy in these instances.

Once the house is fully furnished, we put the rest of the furniture into a prefab storage unit. Oliva gets a message on her com pad, and a smile spread over her lovely features as I close the door to the storage shed.

“What is it?” I ask.

“That was a message from Dracks Mylar. The spacecraft just dropped out of superluminal speed and they’ll be at the star port in under an hour.”

“They?”

“Yes, it turns out that Mylar is about as eager to get started as we are. He picked up Cam Neely instead of making him fly commercial, so they’d get here at the same time.”

“Well, that’s convenient. I suppose we should head into Touchdown and pick them up.”

“You got that right.”

She leads me out to her luxury hover car. I sit in the passenger seat and she settles behind the controls. Olivia inputs our destination and the car rises into the air with a gentle hum.

We fly over the fields and ranches until Touchdown appears below us. She lowers our altitude, since hover cars are limited below fifty feet around the space port for safety concerns.

We settle onto the ground outside the terminal and then make our way inside. In short order, Mylar appears, a look of distaste on his light blue features. He’s holding a loudly snoring, furred fratvoyan in his arms. A fratvoyan who must be Cam Neely. Cam has black fur where Gordo had golden fur, but in truth I have a hard time telling them apart. I suppose people might say the same thing for Vakutans, though.

“Dracks, how was the flight?” Olivia comes up and embraces the Kiphian, careful not to disturb the fratvoyan in his arms.

“Mercifully swift,” Dracks says in a smooth, melodious tone. “Neely drank for almost the entire flight. I’m afraid we won’t get much out of him for a while.”

“Here, allow me, Mr. Mylar.”

I take the passed out Neely from his arms. Dracks gives me a look.

“Do not call me Mr. Mylar. I hate the sound of it. But I am grateful to turn this wretch over to your custody.”

He turns to Olivia.

“I have the supplies and materials you requested. Do you have a delivery point yet?”

“Why yes,” she says with a smile. “As a matter of fact, we do. Wait until you see the place we picked out. You’ll fall in love right away.”
