There was an uneasy feeling deep inside of my gut. Thinking about Bryce getting married to someone else and getting his happily ever after. All the while I could have a front-row seat to it. Taking a job on the farm was a stupid idea. His family didn’t know I knew him. They didn’t know I would torture myself if he was around more with his girlfriend.

This was the worst plan I had ever come up with.

Pulling my phone out I opened up my app to get a ride back to the hotel. I hadn’t really thought about it until we were in the parking lot and my car was back at Nicole’s.

“You need a ride back?”

“No, I mean yes, but I’m getting one.” Thumbing my contact information in his hand reached for mine.

“I’m not making you pay for a ride when we both have to go to the same place.”

The rehearsal dinner was at the restaurant below the hotel I was staying at. He had a point, but I wasn’t about to make him drive me there.

“Bryce…”

“Not doing it Hannah. You’re going to tell me I don’t have to drive you. Then I’m going to tell you how silly it would be for you to pay when I had to go there, anyway. We go back and forth and in the end I give you a ride.”

He had a point, and I couldn’t help but laugh.“So what exactly is your plan? Since you already know how this is going to play out.”

“You’re going to come back with me to my place. I’m going to shower and change quickly. Then we can head to the hotel. You can go get ready and I’ll sit in the lobby waiting for Cole and Nicole to show up and ask twenty questions about how the tour went.”

Covering my face with my hands I couldn’t help but laugh.

“You’re laughing because I’m right. That’s exactly what is going to happen. I promise I’ll be quick.”

“Are you sure it’s a good idea for me to come back to your place though? I mean I’m sure your girlfriend won’t appreciate another woman there while you’re showering.”

He shrugged it off like it was nothing. “It’s not a problem. I could ask you the same thing. You sure your boyfriend won’t mind you being at another man’s place while he’s showering?”

For the first time since we broke up I froze. I was single. I could do anything I wanted. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t keep the smile from crossing my face.

“It’s not a problem.”

Sitting on his couch my back couldn’t be any straighter. The sound of water running down the hall and my mind kept thinking things it shouldn’t. He was with someone. A beautiful someone. Someone I couldn’t compare to.

His phone buzzed on the table next to the couch and out of habit my head turned to see it light up. It was her. My eyes scanned the screen, which I knew was wrong. I didn’t even mean to or know why I was doing it.

Gigi: asshole. making your agent do your dirty work. Real nice

Gigi: for the record I was cheating on you anyway

Walking out of the hallway with a pair of shorts haphazardly on his hips there was no way he put anything under them. His chest was bare and looking more toned than I remembered it, there was glistening water still on him. Being that attractive should was offensive.

“Your phone, umm it went off.”

Picking it up he laughed and tossed it back down. Against my better judgement I opened my mouth.

“Everything okay?”

His face lit up as looked over at me. “Great actually. Best news I could have gotten. Well, I mean… you know what doesn’t matter. I’ll be done in two minutes. You need a drink or anything?”

His reaction was anything but what I expected. He just got told he was being cheated on and he was, happy? It made no sense. I fully expected him to go off. Granted, I didn’t know how he normally handled bad news; this was the opposite of how someone should be.

“No. I’m uh fine thanks. Take your time.”

He turned around, his shorts barely hugging his hips and walked back toward where I assumed his room was.

His house was cute. It was basically what I expected a single guy's place to look like. No personal touches, just a few pieces of furniture. The walls were painted a muted grey with a deep mahogany wood floor everywhere I could see. He had a throw rug in the middle of the room but if I could bet my life on it; it had been passed down and seen better days. The place was an open concept leaving little to the imagination. A bathroom down the hall and one bedroom. I was sure they looked much of the same.
