As I wind my arms around his neck, I purr, “You found them, my love?”

“Of course I did. Anyone who disrespects myPakhanovnadeserves to die.”

Anger flashes through me at the memory. Mikhail and two of my men were forced off the road and nearly killed last month. It was only thanks to Mikhail’s expertise with a gun that he managed to fend off their attackers and escape injured but alive.

He and Kristian found out who was responsible and hunted them down mercilessly. Every now and then, people get it in their heads to test my authority in this city and attack my people, but they always die screaming.

I brush my lips over Kristian’s. “Thank you, my love. We missed you while you were gone, too.”

My husband kisses me hard and then turns to where Demyan is playing with blocks on the living room floor. He hoists our fourteen-month-old into his arms with a smile.

“Did you miss Daddy? He missed you, too.”

Demyan is delighted to see his father, and I admire my dangerous husband holding our baby. Then I check the time. “You have just enough time to wash up before dinner, and we can tuck the children in together before going out.”

“Perfect.” Kristian kisses me before handing over the baby and heading toward the stairs.

I open my mouth to call out to him, but hesitate, wondering whether to tell him my news now or later when we’re alone.

Later. I want him all to myself when we talk.

I head to the kitchen to check on dinner. Arron has finished his homework and he’s setting the table, and Felix takes Demyan for me while I take the casserole out of the oven. Lana is away at college but everyone else is living at home, and I love having my family around me. Kristian and I have been able to balance our work life and home life in a way that we’re both happy and fulfilled. We have help from a nanny at home for the younger children so we both have equal time to devote to work.

My favorite part of the business has always been the figures and the deals, while Kristian is my enforcer. He couldn’t give a damn about spreadsheets, but he’s excellent at reading people and protecting me.

With nine people around our table—ten if Lana is home—dinners are always raucous affairs and my favorite time of the day. My eldest siblings argue good-naturedly about sports or music, and the little ones talk about school. There are often some squabbles, but Kristian is excellent at mediating those, distracting everyone with stories, or simply heaving whoever is throwing a tantrum over his shoulder and walking around with them until they’re giggling and have forgotten what they’re upset about.

Family is everything to us. Our big, noisy, messy table is what I look forward to coming home to, and with the way Kristian’s been determined to get me pregnant again lately, we’re going to need a bigger table.

After we’ve eaten, my older siblings tidy up the kitchen with Kristian, and Giselle, our nanny, takes the younger children upstairs for baths.

I return to my laptop to finish up the spreadsheet I was working on, and thirty minutes later, I’m ready to head to the Silo. First I make the rounds of the bedrooms and kiss Micaela, Nadia, Danil, and Demyan goodnight, and remind Arron, Felix, and Noah that the video games are to be switched off at ten and then it’s bedtime. The three eldest boys are all addicted to a car racing game, and they play it together every night.

Kristian meets me downstairs and takes my hand as he leads me out to his car. I’m humming softly along to the radio as we drive, one of my hands dawdling in his lap. I love his thighs. I love his whole body, actually. His mornings are spent in the gym with his men where they work out and spar, and I join them three times a week so that I stay strong as well.

We work for an hour and a half in the Silo, going through the merchandise and discussing our business contacts. I’m smiling on the inside the whole time, wondering when to tell him my news. Now, or when we’re at home?

When we’re finished, I hook my finger into the neckline of his shirt and draw him down to me for a kiss. “Shall we go home? I wouldn’t mind getting my husband into bed.”

Kristian glances around with a smirk on his lips. We’re totally alone. “You know I’ve always loved a warehouse late at night.”

He picks me up with an arm under my knees and carries me upstairs to the office where there’s a sofa and lays me down on it. His mouth covers mine in an insistent kiss, and I unbutton his shirt while he pulls off my jeans and underwear. There’s a light in his eyes, and I know he’s anticipating the moment he can fuck me full of his cum.

As much as I love that too, I have some news for him.

When he pulls off my shirt and bra and I’m naked beneath him, I whisper, “I have some news.”

“That you’re adorable and sexy and all I can fucking think about?” he asks, sucking my nipple.

“I took a test earlier.”

He freezes and draws away from me. “Are you…?”

I nod, smiling up at him. “You’re going to be a daddy again.”

Kristian’s eyes go wide. “Oh fuck yes, oh hell yes. Really?” He kisses me breathlessly over and over as I laugh and tug at his belt and pants. He’s hard as a rock as I draw him out, and I lovingly run my nails across his balls and the underside of his cock.

“Yes, really.”
