“All this.”

“It’s Christmas, Abs. I wouldn’t want to be with anyone but you.”

We finished our drinks and walked around the square for a while, taking in some of the Christmas decorations that were up and drawing crowds. Abbie had completely fallen in love with the large Christmas tree in the middle of it all, waiting over twenty minutes to get close enough to it to take a selfie of the two of us that I had no doubt was sent straight to Marnie and Jimmy. I’d make sure to get a copy of it after, loving how happy we’d looked in it, surrounded by glowing Christmas decorations and bright lights.

The place had been pretty crowded by the time we managed to move away from the tree, and by the time we realized we hadn’t exactly eaten, most of the restaurants were closed. We headed home—I’d put together another tray and take it outside with a bottle of wine.

Abbie had gone to change into her typical bikini and shorts.

I made the boards up in record time, finding I’d still had some cheese already sliced and cubed in the fridge. I added a fresh box of crackers, a few other things, and headed out to the patio, setting it down on the table.

I went back to grab the wine from the cooler and two glasses and went to wait.

Abbie came out a few minutes later, a smile on her face as she took a seat across from me. “Today was really nice, thank you.”

“I enjoyed it too,” I said, opening the wine. “You need to send me that pic at the tree.”

“I’ll text it later.”

“Don’t forget.”

She stood up, took her phone out of her pocket, and a few moments later, I heard a familiar chime on my phone.

I laughed. “I didn’t mean right now.”

“No time like the present.”

She sat across from me, her face glowing as she poured herself a glass of wine.

We picked at the food, drinking the wine and relaxing. We talked about things back home, stupid things, crazy things. Things she’d seen in shop windows while we’d walked to the square that she wanted to go back for.

Time passed quickly, and one wine turned into two, which turned into three, and she had followed with number four.

The girl had usually been good at handling her liquor, but tonight, for some reason, maybe it was a little different in Curaçao and the heat, but she was a little tipsier than I’d seen her in a while.

I was glad we were back at the villa, wouldn’t relish trying to get her back here like that. I didn’t want her to trip or fall and wind up spending our holiday in a cast. She’d never forgive me.

She smiled at me, a tipsy sweet smile that looked so cute and innocent. She looked ready to try to get up.

“I think it’s bedtime,” I said, setting the empty wine glasses down on the table. “It’s well after midnight.”

And we had to meet Dominique around eleven in the morning.

She yawned. “Can’t be.”

“It is.”

I showed her my watch, and she groaned, turning to head upstairs. She swayed gently as we walked like she was on a boat. I was pretty sure I was going to have to carry her to bed. There was no way she was going to be able to handle the stairs. In fact, I was walking with my hands out, waiting to brace her, and we weren’t even inside the house yet.

“You know what, Lucas...” She spun suddenly.

I couldn’t help my grin. She was beautiful, glowing. “What, Princess?”

She rolled her eyes at my favorite nickname for her. “This was the best idea you’ve had yet.”

“Really?”

“Really.” She turned and kept walking into the house.
