I couldn’t believe I was about to say it, but here it went. “Grab the wheel.”

She blinked. “What?”

I unbuckled my seatbelt. “You heard me.”

I waited for her to grab control of the car, then climbed into the back seat. Despite what action movies might have you believe, it was actually a bitch to shoot out the back while driving.

Finally, Damon’s voice came through the car’s speakers. “What’s up?”

“We’ve got a tail.” I opened the window on my left. “Two SUVs, coming in hot.” The first one had company now, and they were trying to box us in.

“How far out are you?”

“I can see your front gate.” I leaned out of the car and shot a few rounds at the SUV on my side. Fuck, it was armored.

Katya stepped on the gas as if we were being chased by hellhounds. The car fishtailed and I almost lost my balance.

“Slow down, baby. No need to get us killed by wrapping us around a tree.”

“Slow down?” she snapped. “Slow down?”

I grinned at her incredulous tone. I preferred a pissed-off Katya much more than a scared one.

“I’ve opened the front gate,” Damon said. “Take a right, until you hit the barn.”

“They’re right on our tail,” Katya said anxiously. “If we go through the gate, they will follow us.”

That was my woman, even under stress she didn’t want to endanger the people she loved.

“I’m gonna take care of that,” Damon said ominously.

Whoever those assholes were who were chasing us, they were about to meet their demise. No one got to beat the twins on their own turf. Their vast property, hell, their entire damn house, was designed for situations like this. The house was the center of their web, and whoever entered it was going to be caught like a fly.

Katya barreled through the gates, turned right, and slammed on the brakes when she neared the barn.

We simultaneously jumped out of the car. I grabbed her hand and pushed her toward a small grove of trees.

“Whatever you do, don’t get out from behind those trees.”

“But I can help.”

I slapped her butt. “Move, Katya. I can’t think when you are in danger.”

She seemed to finally realize that, so she scurried away. I put the fact that my woman was so close to a shooting out of my head.

I perched behind a jumbled pile of car parts.

The twins joined me, and not a moment too soon. The SUVs sped around the corner.

As usual, Damon had brought out the big guns—his favorite weapons of choice, a pair of AK-47s.

He and his brother took out the SUVs in a rapid crossfire. Bullets rained onto metal like angry hornets, glass shattered everywhere, and both cars hit the side of the barn, shaking the building. Neither of the drivers made it out. One of them was draped over the steering wheel, the other’s head was smashedthrough the window. The same couldn’t be said about the two men who spilled out of each car.

“Like fish in a barrel,” Damon said, as he shot one through the head.

Sweat dotted my brows and slid into the corner of my eyes. Right when I took aim and shot at someone. Fuck.

Angel gave me a look. “Huh. I didn’t think you would miss that one.”
