“We belong together, Tara,” he spoke against her ear. “I fell in love with you the first time I met you. I vowed I’d do anything to have you in my life and keep you happy. I intend to keep that promise.”

His words were romantic, but his deep, rich voice held a dark edge she didn’t understand.

His next thrust made her gasp with its intensity. She opened her eyes and saw him watching her with a burning, possessive gaze while he thrust into her. Their lovemaking was always raw and intense. But right then, she sensed a strange underlying desperation in him that she didn’t understand.

Her body shuddered and threatened to explode in ecstasy with his next hard thrust. But she also felt the need to soothe the man she loved. She let go of his shoulders and held his face in between both her palms as he continued to slam into her.

“I love you, Aarav,” she whispered.

His eyes flickered and some of the darkness receded. She pulled his head lower and kissed him, showing him her love and her need. He groaned deeply before his hand went behind her neck and kissed her back.

He kept their mouths sealed together even during her cry of release when he exploded deep inside her. She clung to him with her hands wrapped around his shoulders while their bodies trembled together.

“I love you,” she whispered once again.

CHAPTER 23

“Thank you so much for your help. You both made our trip all the more memorable.”

Sanjay and Riya smiled back.

“It was our pleasure, Mr. and Mrs. Rathod.”

Sitara’s cheeks heated, realizing that she was now truly Mrs. Rathod and it was no longer a lie.

The cruise ship docked at the port and the passengers began disembarking. But since Aarav and she would be picked up in a helicopter, they finished breakfast in their suite and waited until the chopper arrived.

“Captain Chandran is here. Let’s go.”

Sitara hugged Sanjay and Riya and thanked them again before bidding them goodbye. Aarav had tipped them both generously and thanked them as well.

Soon Sanjay and Riya left and a porter came into their suite to collect their bags. Feeling excited and slightly nervous, Sitara joined Aarav as they stepped out of their cabin suite.

Aarav’s arm was around her waist protectively, but he was silent. She sneaked a look towards him and noticed that his face was unreadable. Until two hours ago, he had kept her in bed, driving her mindless with pleasure and refusing to let her up while making passionate love. But now, there was a strange tension about him and he seemed distant.

Is it because of the threat?

She knew the threat still existed, and whoever was after her, was still not caught. But strangely, she wasn’t terrified. She was going to be careful, and help the investigation in any way she could.

The helicopter was waiting on the helipad and she saw a familiar face.

“Good morning, Captain Chandran,” she greeted.

“Welcome back, Dr. Narayan. You look radiant and relaxed,” the older man said with a smile. “I hope you had a good vacation.”

She fought a blush. “Thank you. Yes, I enjoyed the cruise immensely.”

She got into the helicopter, and soon they took off. Aarav sat in the pilot seat next to Captain Chandran listening to a few updates.

She wondered if he had told anyone about their wedding yet. She hadn’t seen him talk on the phone since their wedding, except briefly that morning to arrange for the helicopter ride.

She knew it would come as a shock to everyone, especially to Preeti and Dr. Pathak. She smiled, thinking about Preeti’s reaction in particular.

They headed to her house in a rented car.

Aarav told her that the investigation team had checked Sitara’s home that morning and cleared it, making it safe to go there.
