“Thank you,” he drawled. “But do excuse us, ladies and gentlemen. I’m here to steal my wife away for our anniversary trip.”

“That’s so romantic!” someone sighed.

Amidst the gushes and sighs, Sitara managed to drag her eyes away from him. She smiled and murmured quick goodbyes before he led her out of the ongoing party. She knew how impatient he could get, and she wouldn’t be surprised if he threw her over his shoulder with an excuse and carried her away. The jerk was quite outrageous.

Her heart raced with anticipation.

They stepped into a lift and the doors barely closed before she reached for him. He caught her first. With his hands gripping her hair behind, their mouths met hungrily and with longing.

“You were supposed to come next week,” she whispered in between kisses.

“I finished early. We dismantled the sleeper unit.”

She was fiercely glad.

They continued to kiss until the doors to the lift opened. Slowly, their mouths parted.

He led her out and she saw there was a helicopter waiting.

“Where are we going?” she asked.

“To a place where I’m going to get you naked and screaming.”

She laughed. “Tell me, you jerk!”

His mouth twisted. “To the cruise. We are catching it tonight.”

“But my luggage…” she said.

“Already taken care of. Sameera, Soniya and Preeti packed your bags for the cruise.”

Life with him was a constant adventure. With excited anticipation fluttering in her heart, she got in. There wasn’t a co-pilot. She sat next to him like she did many times over the year. One of those times was when they flew to visit Dheeraj, his wife and their newborn daughter in the small fishing town where Dheeraj had settled with a different identity.

They were going to visit them again in a couple of months for Dheeraj’s daughter’s first birthday to which they had been invited to celebrate.

She smiled, looking forward to the visit. She enjoyed staying in the small, beautiful fishing town and Dheeraj’s sweet wife made them feel very welcome.

Putting on a headset, Aarav looked at her. “Ready?” he asked.

“Always.”

His mouth twisted, and he once again caught her behind her neck and pulled her closer to kiss her. “I love you,” he said.

Fate had brought him into her life, but she no longer believed it was fate that held them together. It was their love.

She had always loved him right from the beginning. The distance was hard at times, the worry as well, and so were the sacrifices they had to make to be with each other. But loving him was always a constant.

“I love you, too,” she whispered. “Forever.”

The helicopter rose high into the sky, and they took off to the cruise to celebrate their love.

THE END.
