“Don’t friends reminisce?”

“Jake…” Her tone carries a warning.

I hold my hands up in a surrender gesture. “Okay, fine. No more.”

When she picks up her coat, I take it from her and hold it open. I move behind her and lay my hands on her shoulders after she adjusts the collar. I lower my head to her ear. I can’t help myself.

“Just for the record, I’d be happy to replay any of those memories with you. Just say the word.”

She glances up at me over her shoulder, those cheeks turning that blush color I find so fucking appealing. Maybe it’s because I knew it made other parts of her body turn that perfect shade of pink.

Giving her a wink, I nod toward the door and lay a hand on her lower back. “Let’s go.”

“Where are we going?” she asks when we hit the sidewalk.

“To the shop. I thought maybe you’d like to get a visual for your ideas.”

She glances over at me. “Good idea. That’s exactly what I need.”

I wink at her as we continue to walk down the sidewalk. “I always know what you need.”

She shakes her head with a wry grin and slaps my stomach with the back of her hand. “Wiseass.”

We walk the rest of the way in comfortable silence. More than once, I stop myself from reaching down and taking her hand. Before, I wouldn’t have thought twice about doing it.

But that was before I grew up. I am no longer that fearless kid who thought he had the world by the balls. I’m a man with responsibilities and people depending on me.

“Did you ever think about leaving? You know, not running the family business?”

I glance over at Lia as we walk to find her staring straight ahead. “No. I always knew I’d run it.” I shrug. “It’s what I wanted to do. You know I love working on cars.”

Waving to the guys in the bays as we pass, I lead her to the door to the lobby. Once inside, Lia starts walking around the area, intensely looking at every square foot of it. After a few moments, she turns to me. “Do you have a pencil and paper?”

“Sure.” I snag a pencil and some blank paper out of the printer and bring it to the counter.

“Thanks.” With her tongue sticking out at one corner of her mouth, she begins to sketch. When I can’t decipher what she’s drawing, I move my gaze up to her face.

Her brow is creased in concentration, and that glimpse of her tongue is making the crotch of my jeans tight. Visions of that tongue licking my cock like a popsicle flash through my head, and I move behind the counter to adjust myself.

“Hey, I want to show you something.”

She eyes me warily but goes through the door when I hold it open for her. I slide my hand into hers as I walk by just to see what she does. Much to my surprise, she doesn’t pull away but curls her fingers around mine.

I duck my head so she can’t see the big-ass grin on my face.

I take her through the garage and out the back. We cross a wide, paved area, bypassing the secondary garage for the business and toward a smaller one with two bays.

“That wasn’t here before.”

“Nope. I added it about five years ago.” I cross to the side door and unlock it. “It isn’t part of the two main buildings. And no one comes out here but me.”

“So what you’re saying is that I should be flattered you brought me back here?” She crosses her arms over her chest, but a small smile plays on her lips.

I shoot her a grin and raise the garage door. “Abso-fucking-lutely.”

“I hope what you plan to show me is under that cloth. Otherwise, I’m going to think you’re messing with me again.”

I drag my hand across the hood, pulling the woven material until it slides off and reveals one of my favorite projects I’ve ever worked on.
