We have an expiration date. And the more this stays just about sex the better.

“How about you take me home, I’ll get some things done, and you call me when you’re ready to do…other things?”

A shadow passes over his eyes, but he recovers quickly, giving me a naughty smile.

“Sounds like a great plan.”

Yes, it does.

Now, I just need to make sure I stick to it.

EIGHT

Lia

Jake drops me off,and I head straight to the kitchen for coffee. I need more caffeine badly.

I smile as I make the magic juice, thinking about the long night. Jake was everything I remember.

No, he was way more than I remember.

Jake the boy had moves, but Jake the man has honed those moves to sharp, pleasure-filled, orgasmic perfection.

“What in the hell are you wearing?”

I jump with a yelp and turn to see my brother standing in the doorway to the kitchen, one brow raised.

“Shit, Landon. You scared me. What are you doing here?”

“I came by to see you. Iris wants you to come over for dinner.”

I smile. I love that my brother found his happily ever after with his childhood best friend.

The ache that happens when I think about how I lost mine reappears.

“I think I can find the time to do that. I miss her.” I put another pod into the coffee machine and hold out the cup that just finished to him.

“Thanks.” He pushes off the doorjamb and walks farther into the kitchen, taking the mug. His eyes scan me up and down as he sips. “Why are you wearing men’s clothes with heels? Is this some sort of new fashion out on the West Coast?”

“No.” I roll my eyes, trying to play it off, but my face heats up. I turn back to the coffee maker, willing it to hurry up and finish so I can go upstairs and put on my own clothes.

I need a shower. As much sex as I had last night, there’s no way I don’t smell like it.

“Uh-huh.” He leans back against the counter, tapping his finger against the rim of the coffee cup.

I clear my throat and concentrate on drinking my coffee. Besides Jake, Landon is the other one who reads me all too well.

“What?”

“Why are you wearing Jake’s clothes?”

I widen my eyes. Oh shit. “H-How do you know they’re his?”

“Where else would you get a Henderson Auto Shop T-shirt? They don’t exactly sell them as merch.”

I tilt my head. “Did you just say ‘merch’?”

“Isn’t that what they call it these days?”
