So as the guys escort me around school, I try to relax but be conscious of every subtle thing they do and how it makes me feel, telling myself that’s how I’ll measure the possibility of a future together.

And I realize that I lean on them more than I knew.

Landon doesn’t let me carry my bag anymore, and he always stands behind me, toying with my hair while I quite literally lean against his chest.

Milo’s fingers always seem to be intertwined with mine, guiding me gently through crowds and around obstacles—not that it’s really a problem anymore. The angry faces I spotted before the full moon are nowhere to be seen now, and even as I reach out with my feelings, I sense no resentment or anger, just peace among the pack.

Jared has taken it as his person mission to ensure I never lack for a coffee in the morning, often scribbling jokes on the cup before delivering it to me. I have no idea where we’re at in his book, but something tells me he has plenty more to go before he runs out.

But love and comfort have yet to turn into anything of a sexual nature, and even though it makes me cringe, I know I need to push that boundary, and soon, so I can figure out how deep their feelings for me truly go.

They promised they wouldn’t push me, and now that I’m the alpha, I have a sneaking suspicion they’re a little intimidated. In all the drama about wolves and alphas, I sort of lost sight of the attraction I hold for each of them, and the idea of getting to have all three is definitely intriguing.

But now it’s the end of the day and all that remains is English 101. I’m grateful that we’re almost done—it was a long weekend, and one more class will end our day. Jared decreed that he’s going to skip football practice this afternoon, and all three guys are coming to my place for a movie night immediately after. William is already planning on making his famous pizzas. Even though we just had them a few days ago, the guys can’t get enough.

The guys escort me to class in our usual configuration, and Landon’s handing me my bag when I glance up and see the back of a familiar-looking head pass through the crowd and into my classroom.

My heart immediately begins pounding, but I take a few breaths to calm myself. There’s no way.

“Layla, is everything okay?” Landon’s voice is edged with concern.

“Yeah, I’m fine. I just thought for a second I saw someone I recognized, that’s all. But I realized I will probably think that for the rest of my life now,” I joke feebly.

“Very true,” Milo agrees, lifting my hand for a kiss. “Okay, Lex, we’ll meet you out front after class.” He and Landon turn and head for their class, and Jared grins.

“Now I’ve got you all to myself. Hey Layla, what did one wall say to another?” He gestures for me to enter the classroom and I step ahead, angling for our usual seats.

“I dunno, what?”

“I’ll meet you at the corner.”

I groan. “You know, I’m starting to second guess my defense of your jokes. I think they’re getting worse.”

“Nah, you’re just tired,” Jared teases with a wink.

We settle into our seats, and as the classroom quiets down, the professor clears his throat and begins to speak. Immediately, an icy sweat breaks out across my back, and I stare down at the professor’s desk in shock.

“Layla, are you okay? What is it, gorgeous?” Jared, obviously sensing my distress, hisses in my ear.

But I can’t reply. All I can do is stare.

It’s as if I’ve stepped into the Twilight Zone, with my long-distant past and my new life smashing together in a bizarre wreck of a reality.

The professor continues. “I know you started the semester with Professor Johnson, but fortunately for me, he accepted a last-minute position elsewhere and this spot opened up.” His eyes search through the lecture hall and land on me, holding my gaze while he smiles widely. “I’m Professor Derrek Westin, and I just moved here from California.”
