“Shh!” Again, Kevin puts his index finger to my lips. “We don’t have to get married right away.”

Now, according to the script, he should wink at me and keep talking. Instead, he continues to press his finger against my mouth. What is he up to?

After what seems like an endless amount of time, he finally takes his hand away. “But think of it as a sign of commitment. We belong together, don’t you think?”

I can’t believe what’s happening in our living room right now. As if in slow motion, I watch as Kevin, despite all his previous protestations, slides down from the sofa and gets on his knees in front of me.Is he going to propose to me spontaneously? Oh my God, this is making me uncomfortable!Hopefully, Kevin is so loaded that he won’t remember this in the morning. At least when his head is buzzing from a hangover. But… What’s going to happen now?

Kneeling, he pushes one hand under my knees and with the other, he grips me at the waistline. He scoops me towards him, off the sofa.

“Kevin!” I squeal, clinging to him as he struggles up, swaying—due more to his alcohol level than my weight—with me in his arms. “What are you doing?”

“What do you think?” With an expectant look, he looks down at me. “The same thing those two from your book would have done if the little troublemaker hadn’t been present…”

As out of place as the termtroublemakermay be for the cute book character Klara, something moves me as Kevin carries me with increasingly firm steps across the living room and the adjoining hallway. I swallow my wise-ass attitude, feeling tingling sensations in my abdomen instead.

He turns with me into the bedroom. A little too forcefully, as he rams my elbow into the door frame.

“Ouch!” I cling tighter to his shoulders and blink to dispel the tears the pain makes shoot into my eyes.

“I did that on purpose!” Kevin snorts, even without looking at his face I know he’s grinning gleefully. “Just kidding.”

We finally arrive at the bed.

“Considering what I’m about to do to you on this piece of furniture…” Surprisingly gently, he lowers my feet to the floor and indicates a bow. “…I’d better not throw you on it. Follow me unobtrusively, my lady, I will know how to serve you there most excellently.”

I have to chuckle. On the one hand at his stilted wording, on the other hand, because he has started to give me little kisses under my earlobe and down my neck to the collar of my fluffy suit.

Giggling and kissing, we sink down onto the bed. Our fingers blindly find their way to buttons and zippers to pull each other’s clothes off. When we’re both naked, Kevin looks at me for a long moment.

Then he pushes me backward onto the mattress. “Oh, my goodness, why haven’t we done this for so long?”

I know an answer or two, but I decide to remain silent and kiss him to move up a gear.

His left hand embraces my breast; with his thumb, he plays with my nipple, which immediately reacts.

My heartbeat accelerates. I close my eyes and let him kiss me thoroughly. I spread my thighs in anticipation as his swelling member brushes over my hip bone. After such a long time of abstinence, my hormones are charging. I feel an eager tingling in my vagina and long for his penetration.

But instead of thrusting powerfully, his member shrinks in on itself, like a leaky balloon. At the same time, Kevin’s body sinks powerlessly down onto mine, pressing me helplessly into the mattress pad.

But no, there’s no reason to worry: He hasn’t suffered a premature heart attack.

With his face pressed into the crook of my neck, a snore comes directly from his nose into my ear.

Standing in the kitchen, I listen to the bubbling of mySenseoportion coffee maker and watch as the machine spits a double espresso into the cup. I bend down and grab the carton of milk from the fridge. Coming up, I let my all-tensed-up shoulders circle as a soft sound indicates the unlocking of the back door.

“Yoo-hoo, early bird!” Fingers claw into my upper arm.

With an unwilling growl, I turn to Bella.

She presses a wet smacking kiss to my cheek. “Well, don’t look so grouchy, Philly! What’s wrong with you?”

I rub over the sore spot on my arm, sliding my hand further up and massaging my shoulder muscles as well. As I do so, I roll my neck. “The sleeping pad and I will not make friends.” Meaningfully, I smirk at Bella before pouring milk into my coffee and taking a big gulp.

Bella sighs. “Don’t you think you’re overdoing it with guarding the parlor? It’s been a whole week since that weird group showed up here.”
