“I’ll get you back,” he said, his tone low and deadly. “I will.”

“Thanks for the warning.” She winked, and his stomach clenched. “I’ll be watching for you.”

Oh, but she had no idea. He was always the one watching.

Watching her.

When the meal ended and games had been played loudly enough to include the nearest neighbors an acre away, TJ walked with Melody to the door and stood there as she decked herself out in a hoodie, her scarlet-red pea coat that made her look like a regal snow queen, and a matching hat he knew she’d crocheted herself.

“You sure you’ll make it?”

“TJ.” Her tone was firm. Pragmatic. So Melody. “I’m a born-and-bred Michigander. I know how to drive in this little bit of fluff.” She was better at it than him. Always had been. But he still worried. “Do you want me to text you when I get home?”

Was his concern so obvious? He didn’t care, as long as other things weren’t. “Please.”

“Night.” With another wink, she vanished out the door and into the swirling snow. The minute the door closed, a hand slid into the crook of TJ’s arm.

“Come to my room.”

Suspicious, he wrinkled his nose at Lucy but followed her up the wide staircase of his parents’ large, stately home to the hallway leading to the rooms they had occupied as children. Where Lucy once again resided.

She was the same age as him, but no one gave her grief about being single and living with her parents. Because she had a good reason. A brutal breakup last year had sent her scurrying back to Silver Lake City with her head tucked under her proverbial tail. It was only recently that she’d begun to lift it again, much to TJ’s relief. There were times when he’d thought he might lose his twin.

Yes, Lucy had a good reason to be single. TJ did not. There was no explanation he would willingly offer for why he’d never had a girlfriend. Not once, not ever.

Lucy pushed him into her room ahead of her, then closed the door and turned around.

“I have an idea for how you can get Melody.”

He cocked his head, his throat dry with unexpected apprehension. “Get her?”

“You know what I mean.” Eyes rolling, his sister plopped on the bed. “She’s the only woman on earth you want to bring to Karly’s wedding. Or anywhere else, for that matter.”

His eyes closed, his pulse pounding in his temples so hard that he feared his brain might explode out both sides. He couldn’t look at her. “How do you know that?”

“I’m your twin. I’ve always known.”

His eyes popped open. “Always? Please… Please tell me you have kept this to yourself.”

“Cross my heart.” And she did. A thin shoulder shrugged. “I know because Melody told me back in high school about your kiss.”

A kiss he didnotwant to discuss with Lucy.

“Yeah, well.” He sank onto the edge of the bed beside her. “She wasn’t interested then. Why would she be now?”

Lucy gave him a scrutinizing, soul-searching look. It was scary. “She might fall for you if she doesn’t know it’s you.”

Whatever she meant, it sounded dangerous. “I don’t follow.”

“My boss is a genius. He recently created this new dating app, and—”

“I thought you dislike him.” She usually chose a stronger word, but TJ was being polite.

Lucy vaulted to her feet and began pacing. “I do.” She’d taken a job as a personal assistant to some reclusive tech guru who excelled in a few online business ventures, including app development. He did seem brilliant, but according to Lucy, he wasn’t a nice man. “But even I can’t deny how intelligent Silas is. Anyway, as I was saying, he designed this app, Holy Appimony.”

TJ snorted. He detested all things cheesy. Unless it was broccoli cheddar soup. But Holy Appimony? How ridiculous could a name get? “What does this have to do with me?”

“Hear me out. We set up a profile for you with a fake name and photo, etcetera. You can limit the match results to your zip code, and you can make your profile private so you don’t get a bunch of unwanted match requests.”
