Her smile fell. She rotated a finger in the air. “It’s playing on the speakers right now. I can’t believe you haven’t heard this. And hello, men do like romantic songs!” She rolled her eyes. “Anyway, I’ll be back soon.”

Just as she turned to leave, he caught her hand, pulling her close. He tugged on a loose strand of her silky hair, loving the heavy softness in his fingers. “I do love old romantic numbers and this song is an old favorite.”

She scowled. “Then why say otherwise?”

“Teasing you is become a habit, one which I seem to enjoy a lot.”

Her face lit up. She leaned forward and kissed his cheek. “You are really so bad. But I do like you. A lot”

His heart swelled. “Do you now?”

“Yes, now wait till I get back. I want to finish our conversation.”

“Like I said, I’ll be right here, waiting for you.”

Grinning, she sauntered away from him, a bounce in her step. He knew what she wanted to talk about. She wanted to try and make this relationship real and, truth be told, he wanted to try too. Excitement fluttered its wings in his belly. Could he open his heart and let her in?

For years, he’d closed his heart to any serious connections. But with her, already everything felt different. The chemistry between them was off the charts and he liked spending time with her. She was naughty and vibrant, and gave back as good as she got. His heart soared. What if he did give this a try? Could he be able to trust her? Would he be able to let her into his life? Would his family—

“Hello,old friend.”

Vihaan stilled. His entire body stiffened on hearinghisvoice. Rage spiraled through him, shaking him to his bones, but he tamped it down. He’d made a promise to his siblings, one which he intended to keep. He pivoted slowly. Dev Luthra stood behind him, watching him.

Dev smirked, reaching the railing to stand beside him. “I told you I’d find you.”

Vihaan’s hold on the railing tightened. “What do you want?”

“You’re quite a ghost, you know.” Dev took a sip from his martini glass. “My people have been trying to track you since days, but you just appear and disappear at your own will. They’re having a hard time keeping up with you.”

“Are you trailing me now?”

“My people are trying, but failing. I’ll keep trying though. I will find where you live, where you work until I eventually findherthrough you.”

Vihaan wanted to hit him.

“You walked into this war of your own will, Vihaan,” Dev pointed out. “Putting yourself in place of Shaurya and Myra was entirely your choice. Thanks to you, they can live peacefully.”

“If your people have failed to track my movements then how did you find me here?”

“I have other means.”

Vihaan sighed. “I’m going to ask you for the last time. What. Do. You. Want?”

“I want to talk.”

“So, talk.”

Dev dropped his empty glass on the table next to them and flicked his finger at the server for a refill.

“For years, I’ve wondered how you escaped Shimla. I looked for you all everywhere,” Dev began. “I finally had my answer today.”

“Did you now?”

“I never in my wildest dreams expected you to consort with Rajiv Mehra of all people,” Dev surmised. “I suppose it makes sense, though. Make the enemy’s enemy your friend. Do you remember, in high school, Rajiv and I had that massive fight, and Aaryan and you sided with me over him?”

“Guess we chose the wrong side, didn’t we?” Vihaan scoffed. “We learned from our mistakes.”

“I’m pretty sure Rajiv got you here undetected. Your interaction with him spoke of a long connection and…mutual affection. Am I right?”
