He smirked. “Your hand-eye coordination hasn’t improved, I see.”

It was clear she hadn’t mastered the art of throwing things at her intended target. He used to tease her about it in the past, and her answering glare signaled that she remembered that as well.

“I dislike you talking of the past,” she huffed out.

“Staying silent doesn’t mean it didn’t happen or that I don’t remember. Fair warning, Avantika—I remember everything about you.”

“God, I hate you!” she spat out.

“I’ve heard that before from you.”

“You’re a jerk.”

“I haven’t heard that one before from you.”

Her jaw clenched.

“Can we go now?” he asked.

She exhaled a heavy breath and strode inside her room.

“You look beautiful,” he said aloud to her departing back. “Thank you for taking the effort…forme.”

She showed him her middle finger, disappearing into her room.

He laughed, feeling free and at ease for the first time in many years. He hadn’t laughed so easily in so long. Just a few hours with her had changed that. He wondered what else would.

She returned with a shawl, and he ushered her into an elevator and then to the restaurant below. Once there, Dev gave his name to the hostess, and she immediately guided them to a table in the center of the vast restaurant. They were just about to be seated when someone called his name.

“Dev.”

He pivoted and found his maternal uncle approaching him. “Uncle, what are you doing here?”

Uncle Raj pulled him in a quick hug.

“I had a meeting here in London.” His uncle’s gaze darted from him to Avantika and then back to him. “You didn’t tell me you were to travel here as well.”

“It was a last-minute plan.”

Uncle Raj studied Avantika again before saying, “Aren’t you going to introduce me to your date, Dev?”

Avantika’s eyes flashed, but before she could protest, Dev said, “Avantika, meet Uncle Raj. He’s my mom’s brother.”

Uncle Raj held his hand out to her. Avantika stared at it for a long second. He could see the wheels in her brain churning and putting two and two together.

Her mouth tightened. “Are you the same man who got my brother captured and had your goons hurt him?”

Bloody hell! A little over a month ago, thanks to his uncle’s encouragement, his sister, Sanjana, had taken it upon herself to find out more about Aaryan. And while she’d been trying to meet Aaryan under a false pretext, their uncle had taken matters into his own hand and gotten Aaryan captured. Aaryan had, however, escaped that situation. Post that, things had changed between Aaryan and Sanjana, and they’d fallen madly in love with one another. Sanjana, however, had never forgiven their uncle for trying to hurt Aaryan. Apparently, Avantika wasn’t going to let this rest either.

“Uh…” Dev started, but she shot him a death glare.

“I want him to answer, not you,” Avantika said, steel underlying her words.

Uncle Raj frowned. “Brother?” Then his eyes widened. “Aaryan Rajpoot, you mean. You’re his sister? You’re alive?”

“Yes. I’m Avantika Rajpoot, and you have a lot of nerve to think you can get away by trying to hurt my brother. I’m going to call the cops.”

She pulled her phone from her purse. His uncle shook his head. “Listen, young lady, it was all a misunderstanding, and Dev and I have put it behind us.”
