“I want you…only you,” she said. “For years, I’ve tried to forget you, but I couldn’t. I tried not to think of you. I never said your name aloud, hoping all of that would erase you, but it was all in vain. You had consumed me in the past, and now you’ve done it again. No man has been able to make me feel what you do. No man is you…Dev, and I want onlyyou.”

He gripped her waist, his anger and hurt evaporating. It felt so right to be standing like this with her, their bodies aligned and their hearts, too, finally in sync with one another. She reached up and pressed her mouth to his.

He felt a fire in his chest, even as Avantika’s declaration roared in his ears. This woman had always been his. Time, distance, and even a dark twist of fate hadn’t been able to change that. Without him ever knowing about it, she had been waiting for him, just like he’d been waiting to find her again. He gathered her closer to him as she parted his lips and entered his mouth.

Happiness flooded his chest, and a sense of peace washed over him. This was what he’d been waiting for…since forever. Her belief. Her faith in him. Her tongue danced against his, probing, seeking, and playing. His body hardened and his heart thudded.

“We…need…to…talk…” he told her between kisses.

She locked her hands at his nape. “I need you, now.”

“But…”

She bit his lip. His body further hardened in response. He pressed his raging erection against her belly. She pushed back into him. His hands sank into her hair, holding her in place as he laid siege to her mouth. Avantika melted into him, rocking against him, moaning in his mouth, heating his blood further.

“Avantika…” he tried again. “Let’s talk…”

“Bedroom…upstairs…now.”

“But your brothers…”

“I don’t care.” She kissed his lips. “Right now, is for you and me.”

“Neil?”

She started undoing the buttons of his pale grey shirt. “He’s watching a football match. Not even an earthquake will shift him from the TV screen.”

When he hesitated, she unbuttoned his denims and palmed his erection through his boxers, stroking him up and down.

“Fuck!” he cursed, his eyes drifting close.

He allowed her to play with him for a few seconds more before he swooped down and carried her in his arms and up the stairs to the room she pointed.

He placed her on the bed. She lay sprawled on her elbows, watching him.

“Take off your clothes,” she ordered.

His skin heated. “So bossy. I like it.”

“Now, Dev.”

He quickly unbuttoned his shirt and tossed his jeans and boxers aside. She stared at him, her eyes raking over his chest, which was partially covered by the halves of his shirt, going lower until she stared at his erection. Her throat worked, and he felt himself harden under her intense gaze.

She rose, went to him and pushed his shirt down his arms. He knew what she wanted.

He turned around slowly, exposing the most vulnerable part of him to her. When she gasped, he closed his eyes, all the hurt of the past returning to his heart with an intensity he hadn’t thought was possible any longer, even though, on some nights, he woke up in cold sweat, remembering the pain of each tiny shred of his skin.

Hesitantly, her fingers stroked over his scars, touching each one. There were so many. Her touch was healing him from the inside out. Avantika was wiping away that intrinsic pain with every gentle caress.

He hadn’t allowed anyone to touch his back since that night, but he could never say no to her.

“It was him—that same man—who did this, right?” Her fingers trailed over his back. “The one who did this to me too…”

“Yes,” he said softly.

“Was he ever punished?” she asked.

“Yes…though it took me a while. But everyone there that night paid for what they’d done. And that man, Shamsher… I ensured he suffered the worst for what he’d done to you and to…”
