“Brady?” She’d been right behind him, holding his hand as they headed out.

He turned a little, making sure to shield her with his body. He’d searched the snow and didn’t see any tracks, but the woods were only about twenty feet away. The SOB could be hiding there, watching.

Worry filled her eyes. “Is he still here?”

Odds were good that the bastard was, yes, and he’d just made sure that they couldn’t get away. “I need to search the area.” The guy must have a vehicle stashed fairly close by. He’d hidden the ride, then stalked over to slash the tires.

You want us trapped here?

“That’s a yes,” Noelle whispered. “You think he’s here.”

A quick nod. “Go in, lock the door, and keep it locked until I come back.” He already had on his holster, and his weapon was a solid weight on his side. The bastard had been clever the night before. He hadn’t triggered any alarms. His attack had been silent.

“Call the police,” he told her. “Get them out here.” But it would take time for them to arrive, and if the cops came in with sirens blazing, his prey would run.

That’s why I have to get him first.

Noelle nodded but she didn’t go inside. “I get that you’re the one with the special ops training and all of that, but you be careful, understand me? Because ifanythinghappens to you, I will be seriously pissed.”

“Nothing will happen.” Nothing would come between them.

With one last look, she hurried away and went up the steps that led to the cabin. She already had her phone out, and he could hear her talking to the dispatcher.

He turned back to look at the trees. No tracks at all in the snow. He was pretty sure that the snow had stopped falling about three hours ago. The perp could be long gone by now or…

Or he’s waiting.Because, after all, that was what the bastard liked to do.

The first time he’d come after Noelle, he’d been waiting in the open house for her. Just waiting inside for her to come to him.

Then, last night, he’d waited outside the civic center, biding his time until he could get Noelle to come to him once more.

And now he was—

Sonofabitch.Brady whirled back toward the cabin. But Noelle had already disappeared inside. “Noelle!” Brady roared. He didn’t rush for the line of trees. Instead, he rushed back for the cabin.

Back for her. Because Brady feared the perp was up to his old tricks again.

He was waiting for Noelle. Waiting inside…

“Yes, yes, can you hear me?” Noelle demanded as she pressed her phone to her ear and peeked out the window to try and see Brady. “I need the police.” The connection was crap at the cabin. “The address is—”

“Hang up.” Low. Grating.

Her breath choked out. “The address is 52 Winter Way—ah!”

He ripped the phone from her hand and threw it across the room. She slammed her left hand into the glass of the window, hoping to attract Brady’s attention, but even as her fist connected, she was being whipped around to face the man who’d been waiting inside the cabin for her.

A man who wore a ski mask again. A big, bulky coat. And black gloves on his hands.

“You’re coming with me,” he told her. “We’re getting the hell out of here.”

That voice…she blinked quickly, and her lips parted as she gazed through the holes in the ski mask and saw his eyes.Hazel eyes.Eyes that she knew.

“Rowen?” Noelle shook her head. “What are you doing? I’m not goinganywherewith you.” Rowen was the one who’d been terrorizing her?

“Yes, you are,” he snarled right back. “I’m the hero.”
