His eyes narrowed. Chips of blue ice. A cold fury ruled him. This scene was not going to end well for Rowen.

She looked to the right just as Rowen spun to glare at them. “Youlefther!” Spittle flew from his mouth. “I’m here for her. I won’t reject her. She’s going to be mine!”

“You keep harping on the rejection bullshit. Let me correct you.” Brady put his body in front of Noelle’s. “She’s owned my heart for years. Even when I was an ocean away, she was with me. She isalwayswith me. In my mind. In my fucking soul. You don’t get to scare her. You don’t get to attack her. And you don’t get to slash my damn tires!”

A high-pitched cry broke from Rowen as he leapt for Brady. Rowen came flying with his hands outstretched, as if he’d wrap them around Brady’s throat.

Noelle screamed and grabbed for the lamp on the nearby table. She’d slam that into Rowen and—

Brady punched him. A fast hit to the jaw that was immediately followed by an upper cut. She actually heard Rowen’s teeth snap together before he stumbled back. His body weaved, and Brady hit him again. Twice more. Powerful blows that sent Rowen retreating even more. When he hit the edge of the couch, Rowen fell back, careening over the cushions before finally slamming onto the floor.

Silence.

Tension poured from Brady’s body, and she saw his hands clench and unclench. His gaze stayed on Rowen’s fallen form. Rowen barely seemed to be breathing.

“Did you call the cops?” Brady asked, voice icy.

“Uh, I was doing just that.” She let go of the lamp because clearly it was not going to be needed. From the look of things, Rowen was out cold. Noelle scampered to the left and scooped up her phone. When she looked at it, she realized the call had never disconnected. Putting the phone to her ear, she asked, “Are you still there?”

“Ma’am! Ma’am!”The operator’s frantic voice cracked in Noelle’s ear. “Help is on the way! Can you get in a safe location?”

Noelle moved to Brady’s side. Her shoulder brushed against him. “I am in a safe location.”

“Good.” Relief filled the dispatcher’s voice. “Stay there.”

She fully intended to stay with Brady. Now. Always.

“Units will be arriving shortly.”

Rowen let out a low groan. When he heaved up, Noelle saw blood dripping from his mouth and nose. “You…you…” Rowen mumbled as he pointed at Brady.

“Yes, me.” Brady slanted a look at Noelle. “How long until the cops arrive?”

“Five minutes,”the dispatcher said into her ear. “Our ETA is five minutes.”

“Five minutes,” she told Brady, wetting her lips.

“Excellent. Plenty of time for me to teach Rowen that I will always be between him and you.” He closed in on his prey. “Ready for the first lesson to begin?”

Rowen tried to headbutt him.

Brady easily dodged the attack. “I’ll take that as a yes.” He sprang forward.

Rowendidn’tdodge Brady’s attack.

Chapter Eleven

On the eleventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…eleven eager cops waiting to make a bust. Yep, because the story is wrapping up and the cops are closing in.

—Noelle

Noelle squared her shoulders, lifted her chin, and knocked lightly on the wooden door before her. The colorful wreath that hung on the door trembled with the vibrations from the knock.

“You sure that you’re okay?” Brady murmured from beside her.

Oh, she was more than okay. She was riding a righteous wave of fury.

The door swung open.
