“I’m not yours,” I manage to gasp out as he cuts off my air supply.

A menacing smile plays on his lips.

“Oh, but you are. And the sooner you realise that, the better.”

“You’re certifiable. Last week you were more than willing to throw me away like a piece of rubbish,” I argue when he loosens his grip slightly.

“Stop lying to yourself, Brianna.” He leans in, his nose brushing mine. “I don’t fuck girls twice. Ever. Yet you… I can’t fucking get enough of you. It might have taken a near-death experience to make me see it differently, or maybe it was the shrink. But whatever it was, I see it now.

“Me and you. We’re inevitable, babe. Your cunt knows it. Now we just need the rest of you to get on board.”

All the air rushes from my lungs.

“You’re serious?”

“What? Did you think I was joking in my letter? That came right from here, Siren,” he says, lifting his free hand and tapping his chest, right above his heart. “Now start listening to yours and give me what I need.”

“Someone needs to send you back to the hospital to get your head checked.”

He smiles again, and damn it if it doesn’t make every muscle south of my waist clench.

His free hand slips from where it’s resting possessively on my hip to release my wrists.

My arms fall to my side the second my restraints are gone, and I have to fight the need to lift them and rub them.

“I’ll see you soon, Siren.” He releases my throat and takes a step toward the curtain before he pauses and looks back over his shoulder. “Spend my money, babe. What’s mine is yours, yeah?”

I don’t realise I’m holding my breath until the curtain falls back into place and I’m left alone with only my memories of whatever the fuck just happened.

The second the curtain falls closed behind me, I’m met with a pair of dark, confused but equally heated eyes.

Oh yeah. She knows what I did, and she’s jealous as fuck.

“What the fuck are you doing?” Jodie hisses.

I take a step closer, and her eyes drop from mine in favour of the belt in my hand.

“If you hurt—” she starts to warn, but I quickly cut her off.

“I didn’t hurt her. Not in any way she doesn’t want, anyway,” I quip. “I just came to prove a few points.”

Her chest heaves as she stares at me, a million and one things she wants to spit at me on the tip of her tongue.

“Go on, I can take it. I’m not good enough for your best friend. I should leave her alone. Trust me, I know them all.”

Her mouth opens and closes before she finally decides on something to come back at me with.

“If you hurt her again in any way, I will kill you with my bare hands.”

A smirk curls at one corner of my mouth. “As much as I’d love to see you try, Jojo,” I tease, “it won’t be necessary.”

“You sound overly confident about that,” she points out.

My stomach knots. There’s no way I can make those kinds of promises. Firstly, I’m a fucking liability. I didn’t need recent events to prove to me that I’m hot-headed and irrational when I’m angry. But also, I don’t exactly live a life that lacks danger.
