Before I know it, all the guys have swept their girls up into their arms and disappeared from the room with them, leaving me staring at Brianna, desperate to do the same.

“Right, well, that bag won’t pack itself,” she mutters, taking a couple of steps toward the bedrooms and dragging me from the trance I’d fallen into.

“Siren,” I command, forcing her to stop.

When she doesn’t do anything else, I move closer, eating up the space between us.

But the second she twists around to look over her shoulder, my movement falters.

“This doesn’t change anything, Nico. I’ll follow your orders because it’s the right thing to do, but don’t go getting any crazy ideas. I’m doing this for them, not you.”

My lips part to respond, but she’s faster, blowing out of the room as if those few seconds never happened.

“Oh, burn, cuz.” Rhea’s teasing voice flows through my ears, awakening the devil that lives inside me.

I spin around on the balls of my feet and rush over, getting right up in her face.

“Why the fuck are you still here?” I growl, my voice low and deadly.

“What?” she asks innocently. “I’m not allowed to hang out with my cousin and your girlfriend?”

That final word hits like a bat to my chest.

“She’s not—”

“Leave it, man,” Alex says, grabbing my upper arm and dragging me back from the defiant pain in the arse that is my cousin.

“She should be at home for Damien to worry about. Not us. We’ve already got enough on our plates.”

“It’s okay. She’ll be fine with the girls. Let’s just go get ready, yeah?”

He tugs on my arm once more, forcing me to stumble after him. I comply because I have little other choice, but not before my eyes lock on the hallway that leads to Toby’s guest room.

“Later,” Alex snaps. “Let’s get this job done and then you can spend the rest of the night trying to win her over.”

“Pfft, good luck with that,” Rhea scoffs.

I tense, more than ready to turn around, but Alex’s grip on me ensures I continue marching forward.

“Ignore the brat,” he says loudly enough for Rhea to hear before he looks back at her and, I swear, fucking winks.

“Is Stella right?” I ask once we’re out in the hallway and away from prying ears. “Should we allow her and Emmie to stand with us?”

“Are you fucking insane?” Alex asks, finally releasing me.

“No. You heard the boss as well as I did. We’re low on numbers. Only those who we truly trust are in on this. We need all the help we can get.”

“Are you suggesting we’re not enough?”

“What? No. Never. I’m suggesting that we could have more backup.”

While we’re heading to the warehouse that Damien has baited the Italians to, along with Galen, Stefanos and a couple other of our loyal soldiers; Daemon, Ant and a few others are staying here. The risk of me being right and the Italians playing us once again was too high to leave our home—our girls—unprotected.

If they suspect we’re lying and that Daemon and Ant are here, they’ll swerve our decoy and head straight for this place to take back what they think belongs to them.

“I hope we’ve got this right,” Alex muses. “Maybe more should stay—”

“We’ve got it right,” I state confidently. “Plus, Daemon and Ant have it covered here. This place is locked down at the best of times. No Italian fuck is getting inside.”
