“What are you called other than Malifeskos?”

“Malifeskos.”

“What’s the bald man’s name?”

“Healer.”

He left them to their devices and wandered around the temple, finding it sparse with its small rooms acting as sleeping quarters, open spaces leading to the cloudy paths, and a few lamps here and there. A shadow appeared at the corner of his eye, so he backed into a corner and waited it out. When Sona came into view, she was already looking at him.

“Did you just finish dinner?”

“If dinner means trying to get answers from Malifeskos, then yes.”

She smirked and leaned against a column, arms crossed and gaze sweeping over him in appreciation. Then she sighed. “You know, it would have been very easy for everyone if you had just told me the deal beforehand.”

“Deal?”

“Between you and Daria.”

There was no missing the knowing tone. His back turned rigid.

“We are friends.”

“You lie.” Dark eyes narrowed, evaluating him. Her mouth formed an O. “Or maybe you don’t.”

“It’s not up for discussion.”

Sona nodded solemnly. “In denial. That’s what you are.”

“I said—”

“Don’t worry, I’m not interested in discussing it. But in case youareinterested in slaking that unspent lust for a certain someone, you know where to find me.”

She pointed at the moon and smirked once more, then swiveled and walked away with extra sway to her hips. He let himself look, studying the displayed curves and seductive invitation. But the desire didn’t come, and his cock didn’t even stir.

“Oscar’s available if you need to slake your lust,” he found himself calling out.

She held up a middle finger. “I can take care of myself, big boy. That innocent man can’t handle me.”

That had him smiling, but he didn’t stay there for long as he went to survey the rest of the temple. At the back, he found Diego asleep on a bed with Riva seated at his side, arms crossed and gaze fixed on him. His wounds had turned to scars, albeit still very fresh-looking.

“You are going to burn holes through his clothes if you keep staring.”

She blinked, shoulders stiffening.

“I was just making sure he’s alive and well.”

“He’s alive and well,” he mused.

“Anything can go wrong. He had really bad wounds.”

“Aren’t they healing now?”

“Not as fast as they often do for vampires.”

Jesus. Was this how he was? He would have teased, but Charlie took pity on her and decided to leave the topic alone.

“Yes, well, get some rest, too. Tomorrow might be a long day for us.” A pause. “That bed’s pretty big. You can take the other side.”
