“Aren’t you curious about other things?”

Gray orbs flared, then hid whatever she was feeling at the moment. She shook her head.

“I can satisfy my curiosity.”

The memory that had not quite left slithered back in full glory until he was turning the shower off with force. He stepped out of it, drenched, a towel in hand but eyes never leaving her.

“You helped me. Let me help you.”

He heard the edginess in his voice. So did she.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“As opposed to you watching me jack off with your voice calling the shots?”

Her body visibly jolted, then softened. She took a step back while he took a step forward, and it became their slow, soundless dance for the next few minutes until her back was against the door.

“You called your shots,” she insisted. “Your hand did all the work.”

Oh, if only it were true.

“You know that’s not true, Daria. You know what brought me to release.”

For the first time since she came here, doubt glissaded in her features. The need to reassure was so strong that it tightened his muscles once more, the tension building until he was shaking deep inside. He grasped it by the neck, wrangled it in, and trapped her with his arms surrounding her. He leaned in until their heads were inches close and he could see every inflection from her orbs and the hitch in her breath.

“Charlie—”

And that was when all hell broke loose.

The commotion started with a shout, but it was enough to break them apart like a bomb was dropped between them. Then Daria was running away from his room, leaving him to grab his pants and race after her. He stumbled into his clothes on the way and felt the spike of energy before he turned the corner and stopped in his tracks.

Charlie spotted his sister first, Alexa Bennett, who was standing with her feet braced and already had fur on her arms. The rest surrounded her as their attention was fixed on the spectacle ahead, where two parties blurred as they slammed into each other. He studied Daria, who was pointedly not looking at him before he cautiously approached Alexa.

“I assume this is some sort of ritual if you guys haven’t broken them up yet.”

His sister glanced at him, flashed a quick smile, then worried her lip.

“Your vampire companion can be trusted, right?”

“Yes.”

“Why am I hearing doubt in your voice?”

“I trust him. Edmund is another matter, considering I don’t know their clan history and all that. You know how vampire clans can get.”

From the periphery of his vision, he spotted Riva rolling her eyes at his words and muttering under her breath.

“Complicated, weird bastards.”

Alexa glared at her, then sighed in assent. Decided, she stepped forward—

“There’s no need to break us up, my love, because things are settled.”

In the blink of an eye, the scuffle stopped and the two men broke apart, equally bruised and just a tad bloodied. Diego sneered, then turned and stalked away, a far cry from his usual glide.

Edmund Wilder faced them with a fanged grin and open arms.

“Welcome to Casa Wilder where the fun never stops.”
