“Fun.”

“I’m glad you think so.”

“Men are pigs.”

The words slipped out of her mouth without permission from her brain, but there was no taking them back. Daria ogled her glass, bewildered, then knocked it back. Liquid heat coasted down her throat, giving her boldness when she noted that all three were looking at her. She shrugged.

“Now, now, let’s not do that.” Riva shook her head. “It’s insulting to pigs.”

Sona raised a brow. “And to men. Not all men are pigs.”

“No man is a pig,” Riva insisted. “They are just jerks.”

“Fine. Then not all men are jerks.”

“That’s because you can just fuck them as you please and toss them aside anytime you want. No offense.”

Sona smirked. “None taken. If it were that simple, I would have already fucked my way through Manhattan, wouldn’t I?”

“But don’t you need to fuck to survive or something like that?”

“No.” The smirk widened. “I just need to orgasm.”

“Oh.Oh.That’s way better.”

Daria watched the two rib at each other before they turned to her expectantly.

“Where is Diego, by the way?” she asked.

Just like that, Riva’s good-natured teasing transformed into a scowl. “How should I know?”

“You know,” Daria confirmed. “You look reluctant, but there’s a gleam of knowledge.”

“You know, since you got your eyesight back….”

“She has been very invested in all of us and our faces,” Sona finished. “And good for her. Now, where is Diego?”

Riva scowled some more, then scowled into her drink.

“Out with Edmund. After withholding his thirst for fresh blood for so long.”

“But Edmund doesn’t partake in fresh human blood anymore…oh.” Daria’s eyes widened. “Animal blood.”

“Or human blood. Some woman he will probably seduce. Whatever. It’s none of my business.”

But now she looked more upset than ever and was knocking back glass after glass like nobody’s business. Daria met Sona’s gaze, alarmed, before they snatched a glass each and gulped it down.

“Half of the male population are jerks,” Daria declared for the other’s sake. “And the other half are just beyond clueless.”

Sona nodded. “I will drink to that. Mal, anything to add?”

“I love Alexa.”

The complete, clear declaration had them staring at the man, who was sitting comfortably on the narrow bench despite his huge size. Sona straightened.

“Well. I guess I’m the only one without problems around here.”

“I have none,” Daria cut in, stubbornly shaking her head. But Charlie’s face kept swimming in her mind, a memorable moment that was now stained with those words.
