She took hurried her step when she heard voices in the dark. Probably some other couple fucking each other’s brains out. Cat didn’t know why, but she’d felt strangely at ease in the middle of the debauchery earlier tonight. Perhaps because Demon sat next to her, keeping everyone at bay.

Seeing Zion, Crusher and Molly together didn’t shock her. She liked how she surprised Demon by going along with his game, turning the tables on him, and getting him all worked up.

Demon may be the one brother everyone avoids because of his love for carving people up. She’d seen a side to him that day he fell on his knees and picked her up from the dirt bike track after she’d crashed Turtle’s dirt bike.

He’d been sweet, as he’d looked her over for injuries. He’d been protective; as he’d saved her from Rick a year later. And he’d been irresistibly hot as he made her describe Zion and his friends tonight.

Demon was perfect.

And way out of her league.

She sighed as she climbed the highest ramp on the track. After plunking down on top, she unscrewed the bottle of ouzo. The anise flavor assaulted her nostrils, but she chugged her first gulps, anyway.

What was she to do now? She’d been in love with a guy who called her a crazy little girl. How could she ever make him see they were perfect for each other?

She welcomed the warmth in her belly after taking another swig. Maybe she should give up on him.

Getting drunk on the dirt track would probably not be the best of ideas. If Demon found her sitting here, he would have a fit.

Cat snorted. “Like I care…”

She quickly took another swig to drown out every thought and emotion, since she knew deep inside exactly how much she cared.

CHAPTER NINE

Demon clawed through the mud as his feet worked their way up to the top of the highest ramp on the dirt bike ramp. He’d almost missed her sitting out here in the dark when he’d searched all over for her on the IVMC compound.

Cat took a swig from what seemed like one of Annas’ bottles of ouzo that his family shipped in from his homeland. Only Cat would dare steal a bottle of liquor from their president on her eighteenth birthday, knowing full well that the old Greek wouldn’t be happy with her.

Not that she ever cared about getting into trouble. If Catriona Walker wasn’t the younger sister of one of his brothers, and if he wasn’t almost twice her age, she would be fucking perfect for him.

But she was all of those things.

Demon sat down three feet away from her on top of the ramp, eyeing her well-worn biker boots underneath those perfect bare legs that had been a thorn in his side ever since she’d stepped into the clubhouse in her skimpy black dress tonight.

“What’s up, little girl?”

He purposely called her that, mostly for himself to keep his dick in check as he watched her throat swallow another gulp of ouzo. Cat’s loud burp traveled over the empty track in the night, reminding him she was in fact still a girl even though she’d turned eighteen.

“I can do better than that,” she said to herself as she sat up straight, opening her puffy lips for another burp. No sound fell from her lips, and Demon thanked the stars that she also kept the booze in her stomach.

“Why are you sitting up here? Don’t you care that Nora is alone now?”

Demon mentioned her twin on purpose, hoping that it would sober Cat and make her head back to their birthday party inside the clubhouse.

She finally acknowledged his presence when she said, “Dev is with her.”

Of course, her brother Devlin was with Nora, who scurried around the compound like a scared little mouse. Demon respected his club brother, but he didn’t get why he would let the twins hang around the club—eighteen or not.

Especially after everything that happened between Cat and Rick all those years ago. The club may have kicked Rick out of the club that day; his father was still very much present. Mud and Mammoth were the biggest threats to this club in Demon’s eyes. It was a shame Annas only listened to Silas nowadays. Demon felt the club changing, but he was unable to stop it.

Demon pinched the bridge of his nose. “Let’s go down and get you some water.”

She turned her gorgeous face to him and pulled a brow as she brought the bottle to her lips. “This will do just fine.”

Demon snatched the bottle from her hand and took three gulps, grimacing as the anise-flavored drink burned his throat.

“Prez isn’t goin’ to be happy with you.”
