Shouldn’t you be more concerned about him invading your privacy than about him seeing you drooling?

She should. She wasn’t.

And so started a few weird days. Each day, he brought her something new. One day, it was a really soft robe. The next it was some clothes. Bright clothing that was nothing like what Honey had brought her. And while some of it was definitely not what she would have chosen, well, she had to admit she kind of liked the full, bright skirts and T-shirts with lace and bows on them.

They were fun and cheerful, which wasn’t how she would describe herself. She refused to wear them, but every so often she’d open the closet and stare at them. And okay, she’d tried a few things on when he wasn’t around.

But wear them, nope.

Because she wasn’t giving in. One day soon, she’d leave. And all of this would be left behind.

Including Zander.

But it was four days after he’d brought her Joseph Herbert that he really tested her. When the eReader turned up on her bed.

She’d stood there and stared at it.

Well played, Zander. Well played.

It took everything in her not to snatch it up and start reading immediately.

Fuck. Fuck.

Her hands clenched into fists. Even if she were to open it up and take a peek it wasn’t like she had the means to put any stories onto it.

So she might as well have a look, right?

Opening it, she sat on the bed with a thump as she scrolled through page after page of books. Had Zander put all of these on here? It must have cost him so much money. But even more than the money was the time it must have taken. Because these weren’t just any old books that had been shoved on here.

There were pages of Daddy Dom books by authors that she loved. Some she’d read, but many she hadn’t. However, all of the books by CJ Bennett were in there. She was her favorite.

And then there were BDSM books and reverse harem books. So many of these she hadn’t had a chance to read. Her budget had never stretched too much. Mostly when books were on special, she’d download them to her phone.

This was . . . there were no words.

For the past few nights, poor Joseph Herbert hadn’t been left any cheese. Quite honestly, that was eating her up inside. Every time she looked over at him, he was watching her with reproach in his eyes.

I’m starving, Kiki. Feed me.

She closed her eyes.

Stop it. It’s a toy. It’s not real.

With a deep breath, she set the eReader down and stepped away. But it hurt.

It hurt so freaking bad.

No one had ever done anything this nice for her before. No one had ever been this thoughtful. He’d known exactly how to get to her. It had taken him a while. Because it wasn’t the toy, which was cute but resistible. Or the clothes. Again, sweet, but she could walk away.

But this. This was almost impossible.

What would it matter if she read one story? No one was going to know, right? It wasn’t giving in. It was taking what was on offer. Who was going to read all those books if she didn’t?

Right?

Mind made up, she practically dove for the eReader, picking it up and moving to the sofa. She devoured a book in hours, then moved onto book two. Before she knew it, the afternoon had flown by. When Zander walked in, she glanced up, shocked at the time.

“I see you like my gift,” he said, staring down at her with satisfaction.
