And Kent should know he took that kind of vow seriously.

“And what are you going to do with her once you’ve gotten what you want from her?”

Considering he had no real idea of what he wanted from her, it was kind of difficult to answer that.

“All you need to know is that she’s taken care of.”

“Wait, Zander—”

He ended the call before the other man could go on at him about anything else. Honestly, if he wanted someone to fuss over him, then he had Eli. He didn’t need it from Kent as well.

One thing was clear to him, though. He had hit a dead end on Kansas’ trail.

Perhaps it was time to head back home.

Back to her.

There was something very wrong in how obsessed he seemed to be with her.

Moving towards the vehicle he’d hired, he climbed in. He drew out his phone and tapped out a message to Ammo that they were going to head home.

The asshole would show his head again, and when he did, Zander would be ready.

“Zander,we can’t keep her here indefinitely,” Webb said as soon as he entered the bottom level of his team’s headquarters.

He owned the property. It was fifty acres. Enough to give them some privacy, but not so much that they had a huge upkeep.

The security system that Miles had set up with Ammo and Zander’s help covered the entire property, ensuring that the borders remained intact.

The large farmhouse with the wraparound porch was kept in impeccable condition. They all had clothing in the six bedrooms. There was food in the pantry, perishables in the fridge that were constantly replaced.

But that was all a front.

They only ever stayed in the farmhouse if there was someone visiting.

And no one ever visited. Well, except for the odd person who’d gotten lost or was trying to sell something. And then they never made it past the gate.

Zander liked his privacy. And he was paranoid enough to keep up the front.

Where they really lived was the underground bunker that he’d painstakingly created. It had to be secure and hidden, but still allow them to live there. There weren’t any windows and the door that shut them in was made of steel and weighed close to sixteen thousand tons. The door was hidden in the hillside where he’d had the bunker carved out.

The bunker was as nice as he could make it. The top level was a huge garage. That was Eli’s area. He even had a set of rooms off it. They had to take an elevator down to the other levels. There were common areas like the high-end kitchen with eat-in table, gym, pool and sauna, as well as a large living room, the movie theatre and firing range.

But they each had their own zones. Private sitting rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, and offices for each of them. The lowest floor was Miles’ domain. This was the security center for the whole ranch. Or compound, as the others usually called it.

Screens were set on the walls, each showing different camera angles. Then Miles’ desk had several more computers set up. He had a cot set up in here, as well as a small kitchenette. However, the cot was only here if he needed to stay and keep an eye on something.

If they let him, Miles would live here all the time. And it wasn’t healthy for him. Eli would usually grumble at him until he left, got some real sleep, bathed, and ate. He’d even taken to ordering him outside for some vitamin D.

Today, he was surprised to find not just Miles down here, but Webb, Honey, and Eli as well. Ammo strode in behind him.

“What’s going on?” he asked.

Miles looked rumpled and his T-shirt was on backward. Not unusual.

“Team meeting,” Webb said, pacing back and forth.
