“You are my mate to protect,” I stated, crossing my arms and waiting for her anger to fade. “Look at the ground below.”

For a moment I forgot she was a human, realizing my mistake as she looked down and rolled her eyes with a huff.

“And what am I looking at?”

Before she could speak, I was launching into the air, sweeping her up in my hold and sailing into the night. Her screams died out as she clung to me, her body heat radiating between us. I had to bite back a moan at how fucking good she felt in my arms.

The moment was wrenched away when I set her on the ground right at the body we’d discovered only an hour before.

“Oh god,” she gasped, backing away with a hand pressed to her mouth. It was a gruesome sight, but the stubbornness she’d shown me so far was enough for me to bypass just simply telling her this. She had to see it to know how serious this was. Fighting me would only endanger her. My job was not just to protect Dark Haven. That was my men’s job. Mine was to protect Harlow as well.

“She looks like you, doesn’t she?” I pointed out and she nodded numbly, a tear tracing down her cheek. “Don’t give him the satisfaction of knowing he got to you. My mate is strong and uses her enemy’s taunts as fuel for her flames of vengeance.”

“Your ‘mate’ is a fucking human!” she yelled. The way she said mate was like it was a curse to be spat out and not the most important being in my life.

Our bodies were pressed together before she could react, and I was launching us back to the roof. When my feet hit the floor, I didn’t let her move away.

“You are a human, but do not question mine or your intelligence by suggesting that you are just an average human. You, my mate, are stronger and have far more potential. The moment you let me claim you as we are meant to be, then you’ll understand how wrong you are.”

“You don’t get to have me,” she growled. “I’m not your mate.”

“Then why do you tremble at my touch? Even your breath hitches at my presence, and I know that my voice,” I said, lowering my tone as I leaned in to whisper directly into her ear. “Does something to you.” She shivered at my low words. “Now, are you going to be a good mate and let me claim you?”

“No,” she said, even as my hand trailed lower and her hips pushed against it as I ran it over her heated cunt. Even through her jeans she burned for me.

“Should I stop touching you, then?” I asked as I applied pressure.

“No.”

That was all I needed. Now she was mine and there would be no more of this push and pull I was swiftly growing tired of. She could feel the pull between us, I just wanted her to admit it first.

The pleas that would fall from her lips would fuel my dreams for years to come.

ChapterFour

Harlow

Saturday Evening

Dark Haven Roof

The feel of Kol’s hands on my body was indescribable. There was an almost static charge between us, zapping me, making my skin tingle and my hips grind into him. The pull I’d felt to him from the beginning was so strong now that even my stubbornness couldn’t keep him away.

“You’re mine, Harlow. I’m going to take my time enjoying you.” His words were a growl as his pointed teeth grazed over my skin. The sharp sting of pain wasn’t soothed, it was enhanced as whatever supernatural bond formed between us fell into place.

The electricity between us continued to grow until I was panting for breath and desperate for him to give me more. Kol let out a soft chuckle as I writhed against him, knowing damn well what he was doing.

My gargoyle was magnificent. His dark wings spanned out against the backdrop of the night sky. His skin was hard and cold, a huge difference to my feverish flesh. He both soothed and goaded me with each touch.

He pulled the pants away he’d had on, revealing an expanse of hard lines, thick muscles, and a cock that made me salivate. He was long and thick, ridged so I knew it would feel phenomenal.

His thick pointed tail flicked behind him, as if it were as hungry to touch me as he was. Fucking Kol would not be gentle or kind, he was full of claws, fangs, and stone, ready to destroy me in the best and worst of ways.

“I’m not yours,” I uttered. They all loved to try to own me, possess me, but I wasn’t anyone’s property. Or at least I tried to tell myself that. Monty, Drake, Hiro, Roman, and now him all had flooded my senses, changed me in ways I knew I’d never go back from. Nor did I want to. Sure I wanted to fight, to cling to some sense of independence and normalcy, but without them I’d be the same broken girl I always was. Even as they possessed me, owned my body and my heart, they never took more than I could handle, never left me desolate when they walked away.

He let out a rumble of annoyance before sinking his teeth into my neck. I cried out at the pain but something swirled in my veins, cold and icy as it flooded my system, making my head spin. My entire body was sensitive now, each brush of his fingers or tongue sending goose bumps over me and pleasure slamming into me like a tidal wave.

“What did you do to me?” Lights danced around him, the world blurring until it was just him and me. I still had control, but everything felt so much more intense. The touches, his scent, the need.
