I turn to him. “Thank you.” But the fact that Dom and Co haven’t immediately joined in has me holding my breath and waiting for the possibility of rejection to rip me to shreds. I already feel weird enough that I’m asking my boyfriends for some quality time.

Magnus continues to smooch my hand. “I’ll have my people get ahold of your people.”

“Noted.” I roll my eyes but am otherwise grateful for his humor in this incredibly tense time.

Simon remains quiet by the door, but I can sense his energy from across the room.

“How about tomorrow?” Co finally says. “Just you and me. I’ll put something together. I promise.”

Dom places his large hand on my back. “And I’ll work on a date for next week. How’s that?”

“Really?” I flit my gaze between both of them, those tears that almost formed earlier still wanting to rise to the surface.

“Yes.” Dominic nudges my chin softly and tilts it up toward him. He kisses my lips with such ease that you’d never imagine he’s the brutal man who murders people on a semi-regular basis. “I’m sorry you’ve been feeling neglected.”

“It’s okay,” I mumble against his mouth. But is it? Is it really? I understand they’re running a criminal conglomerate but they’re the ones who insisted I be a part of their life.

Well, that’s not totally true—it was my doing, too, but they could have said no.

All at once, multiple phones buzz. My three men reach into their respective pockets and check the notifications.

“Let me guess,” I sigh.

“Sorry, princess.” Magnus wraps his arms around me and hugs me tightly. He places a kiss on my cheek. “Love you.”

“Love you more,” I grumble.

“Never.” He releases me and stands, slapping Dom on the shoulder. “You driving?”

“Always,” I say, barely a whisper. And honestly, it feels like the truth.

Magnus turns back toward me and caresses my face. “I’ll plan something, too, don’t worry.”

"We all will." Co grips my hand before following Dom and Magnus toward the door where Simon still stands.

Dom pauses on his way over. "I've got to make a coffee real quick."

“Already waiting for you in the car,” Simon tells him. “Americano, black.” He looks to Magnus. “Cappuccino, extra whip.” Then at Co. “Tall coffee with a shot of espresso.”

With all that caffeine, it's no wonder Co never sleeps. Or maybe it’s just the fuel that keeps him up during his late nights and early mornings.

“You know, Beckett.” Magnus latches onto Simon’s shoulder and gives it a firm shake. “You’re kinda growing on me.”

Co shoves past Simon and leaves the space, his absence tugging at that invisible thread wrapped around my heart. Dom mutters a “thanks” on his way by. And with one more farewell, the door latches shut and leaves just Simon and me here alone in this massive kitchen.

His emerald gaze locks onto mine. “You okay?”

I nod slowly and hold the blanket Co gave me tighter around my body. “I’m tired, that’s all.”

He whips his head toward the stairs. “Why don’t you go back to sleep? I’ll be down here if you need me.”

“I don’t need a babysitter, Simon.”

“You keep telling yourself that.”

“I thought this place was supposed to be impenetrable. I’m not safe in their home?”

“Your home,” he says without hesitation. “This is your home too, June.”
