I laughed and lifted my glass. “Exactly.”

“Take my daughter. She’s ripe and will provide you with several children. Isn’t that what your kind wants anyway, heirs to your demonic empire?”

Almost nothing shocked me any longer but offering his barely eighteen-year-old daughter as payment disgusted me. Although I realized my intentions with Eden weren’t that much different. However, at least my beautiful goddess was several years older. I leaned forward, never blinking as I stared into his eyes. “You disgust me, Sanford. To think I would accept an innocent creature for your misdeeds is repulsive as hell. You know exactly what I would do to her, yet you don’t seem bothered by the fact I’m a sadistic man.”

“What other choice do I have?”

I took a long swallow of my drink then rose to my feet. “You know the choice. I expect payment or I’ll come hunting. And I assure you my methods of collecting my prey will be more terrifying than the end game. Just something for you to keep in mind.”

As I walked away, I was satisfied whatever he was in the middle of would keep him busy for the next few days. Hopefully, the terror I’d seen in his eyes would give way to the man making yet another mistake. I was never wrong. He was working for someone else. If I had to guess, I’d say Rodriguez.

It was a terrible shame that you couldn’t trust anyone in business any longer.

The trip was turning out to be even more interesting than I’d thought possible.

Now I had an incredible event to attend at the Garden of Eden.

Only then could my next level of seduction begin.

My cock twitched at the thought.

As I walked out, I took a deep breath. It could prove to be an interesting next few days.

“How did it go?” Jameson asked.

“Exactly as I anticipated. Our friend Mr. Wallace will soon make contact to whoever he’s working for.”

“Rodriguez?”

“Undoubtedly. That will provide me with an excuse to end our business arrangement.” I headed toward the corner, scanning the area as always. I half expected to see one of Rodriguez’s soldiers lying in wait like some barracuda.

“You didn’t trust him at all.”

I laughed, grabbing my phone the instant it rang. “Alessandro. It’s been an interesting few hours.”

“Who the hell did you send me a picture of?”

As soon as he asked the question, I stopped walking, my anger returning. I didn’t like being fucked with and that’s exactly what the informant had done, spouting off bullshit. “Let me guess. That wasn’t the man who betrayed you.”

“Hell, no. Granted, they look similar, but the information provided was wrong.”

“Then it would seem there’s more than one game being played,” I said, hissing under my breath.

“Then you need to get back to New York until we can figure it out. You know what I’m dealing with here.”

Yeah, I did. The Feds continued to try to reestablish a case against him, but I’d had the distinct feeling someone was gunning to tear down our entire family. And it would seem I’d played into their hands by fucking around in New Orleans. Seething, I scanned the street, curious to see if anyone was paying attention.

My plans would be escalated, but not until I was finished.

“Once I’ve finished business.”

“Damn it, Cruz. I don’t like shit like this going down. You don’t have enough support. The business has been concluded for now. If this shit’s coming from Rodriguez, then I’ll send a team to handle the situation.”

“You seem to forget I know how tohandlemyself.”

He huffed. “Goddamn it. What the hell is keeping you there?”

“There’s something I need to do.”
