I cocked my head, studying him. “Let me guess. Execution style.”

“It happened maybe minutes before I got to his shithole of an apartment. Two bullets between the eyes. I wish I’d managed to do it.”

Taking a deep breath, I almost burst into laughter. “We’re being played.”

“Why?”

“Because someone is trying to destroy us. What about Wallace?”

“Still holed up with the young dude.”

“Interesting.” As I tried to put some of the pieces together, I sensed there was something else on Jameson’s mind. “What do you need to tell me?”

I could tell by the look on his face he had news that I wasn’t going to like.

He shook his head then pulled an envelope from his jacket pocket. “This is going to piss you off.”

“What hasn’t as of late?”

“Yeah, well, this is a doozy.”

When he dropped the envelope on my desk, I took a few seconds, even gulping a swallow of coffee before easing my mug to the surface. The second I grabbed it, I had no illusions about the contents.

Photographs.

What. The. Fuck?

I peeled away the flap, yanking the entire group of them into my hand. In and of themselves, they weren’t some burning evidence that typically could be used against me. But given they were pictures taken from time spent with Eden at the club as well as when the window was down on the SUV, Jameson was right that I was furious. There was also a single shot of her standing in front of a coffee shop, exactly where I’d seen her. Whoever was fucking with me had been under my goddamn nose.

“The fuckers were following us,” he said.

“They’re following her as well.”

“You’re sure this is about her? People know you’re here. They probably know you didn’t come with an entire unit of men either.”

He had a good point. “Was there anything else with the pictures?”

“Nothing. I checked the security cameras already. Other than being able to see a figure dropping them off, there was no car. The asshole must have parked a block or so away.”

While I hadn’t installed the cameras, it was one reason I’d accepted the invitation from one of the few men I trusted. “This doesn’t bode well for my plan. We may need to leave after I handle Wallace.”

“What are you going to do?”

I thought about his question. “Eliminate a problem.” If Wallace was working with someone else, which is what I suspected, getting rid of him was my best option.

He took a deep breath, eying me carefully before speaking again. He knew my moods and what forced me into the darker personality I shared with my brother. He’d had to keep me from pulling a trigger more than once during his employ. “What are you going to do with her?”

I sat back, staring down at the photographs while I answered. “She’s staying here until we leave. I need you to find everything you can about the artist from the show at her gallery. Talon Martin.”

“What’s the deal?”

“A dead rat was sent to her gallery.”

Exhaling, he raked his hand through his hair. “You’re certain it has to do with this artist?”

“At this point, I’m not certain of anything. However, I recognize him from somewhere. That’s what I need to figure out, but I have a feeling Rodriguez has something to do with this.” While the pictures wouldn’t make good leverage, they would be useful in pointing out my weakness.

“Then what are you going to do, boss? If that’s the case, then we need to get some additional soldiers here.”
