“Sanchez Rodriguez. Is he here?”

Sophie laughed, narrowing her eyes. “You know there isn’t a man who frequents my establishment who uses their real name.”

“But you know who he is. You make it your business to know everything about your clients prior to letting them cross your threshold.”

“You do remember. Why do you want him?”

“Because he crossed me.”

“You know he’s a brutal sadist.”

“Then why did you open your doors to him?” I asked. While her house was known for satisfying almost any fantasy, she had strict rules that had to be followed.

She took a deep breath, rolling her eyes. “I have one girl who likes it painful. You know what I mean.”

“I doubt she’ll say the same thing after spending time with him.”

“I don’t know. Kylie is as kinky as they get.”

“Where is he, Sophie?”

Her gaze traveled all the way down to my boots before she answered.

“I value what you did for me years ago, but he’s one fucked-up dude. He’ll hurt the girl he selected, and I can’t let that happen.”

“It’s not going to happen, Sophie. That much I promise you.”

When she hesitated, looking the other way, I moved so close I could tell what she’d had for lunch.

“Mr. Montenegro, please.”

“I never thought I’d say this to you, but you owe me,” I told her.

She glared at me for a full ten seconds then laughed. “You drive a hard bargain. Just don’t spill any blood inside the house. My cleanup crew is on vacation. He’s on the third floor, last door on the right.”

I chuckled. She’d been forced to hire security guards who doubled as a disposal crew. More than one murder had occurred behind her doors. “No problem. I didn’t come here for blood. Just answers.”

“Uh-huh. I know you too well. Remember?”

“Yes, you do.”

She tilted her head, narrowing her eyes. “You found someone.”

Sophie had also touted herself as a mystic, capable of telling fortunes, reading auras. “It’s best that you don’t ask any questions.”

“I understand.”

As I turned to leave, she grabbed my arm, staring me in the eyes again. “She’s very special to you but there is darkness if what I’m seeing is true. You’re both in danger. Whatever the two of you share is laced with demons.”

She had no idea how much on the money she was. “Stop worrying, Sophie. You know I can handle myself.”

“It’s not you I’m worried about.”

“Then what?” I didn’t believe in fortunes or fate, but I sensed she was close to being overwrought by concern.

“I see her death.”

“That’s not going to happen.”
