“Shh...” The soft whisper came from the opposite side, and I spun, finding Blaise only inches from me. Her knives had expertly blocked mine, and we grinned at each other. “I’m going to steal your book,” she whispered with a conspiratorial grin.

I raised an eyebrow, wondering if I should bother challenging her. I had the map we’d drawn memorized anyway, along with most of the entries.

“Jillian has it,” I said after a moment, and Blaise smiled wider.

“Watch my back then, and I’ll tell Luca to let you see ours.”

“I thought he was in charge,” I said, and she chuckled, shaking her head.

“Don’t be ridiculous. Do we have a deal?”

I lowered my knives in answer and gestured for her to step to it. My team would never even notice her, not while they were this deep in the bloodlust.

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

KANA

Blaise was like a shadow.

Jillian and Darnell never suspected a thing as Blaise crept behind them, darting in like a lightning strike to grab the book tied at Jillian’s waist.

I held my breath, barely believing how easy she made it look. Maybe Kas could be convinced to let her run Undertow one day, if he was living in the palace with me...

“Well?” she asked as she rejoined me, book in hand.

“That was like poetry,” I breathed, and a triumphant grin spread across her face.

“Come on, the boys are this way. I’ll even let you guys have some spicy times if the mist doesn’t drag you away first. I’ll be busy reading,” she added, snickering before she darted down a long corridor to the left. I ran to keep up, praying to the Goddess that the mist would just chill for a bit.

I wanted another pleasure pit stop.

Several minutes and a dozen twists and turns later, I spotted the entrance to a wide-mouthed cave. Someone had built rocks up on both sides, leaving only a narrow entrance to guard. Blaise ducked inside, beckoning me forward.

“Fuck, it’s good to see you,” Luca growled as soon as I popped my head in. He lunged up and wrapped me in his huge arms. “Hopefully, Kingston will be back soon - he ran off looking for that blood slave, and the two of us tried to follow but got separated by pack of snow-tailed fossa. Harmless but they’ll slow you down.”

“Yeah, we are all too late for the slave,” I answered, sighing into my wolf’s broad chest and sinking into the comfort I had never imagined I’d find with him, but was so grateful for.
